It was a good thing Michael had taken it upon himself to check on Charlie's son, Bobby. He did not know, nor at this point did he care why, but the child had been left unattended. The angel was positively livid, but kept himself calm on the outside. Bobby was fine, and now he would be safe. Michael knew he could not take care of the child himself right now, though that fact tore him apart inside. This child was the most important thing in his world, and it was the only piece of Charlie left. He knew Father had warned him to place the child first for a reason, and it angered him that the Almighty had apparently known that Lucifer would kill Charlie and had kept that fact a secret. However, he continued to tell himself that these things had come to pass for a reason. Bobby was safe with him now, but the angel needed to find somewhere else for him. Lucifer could not find the two of them together. Nor could he take the child to any of his brothers. They were all in too much danger and would be far too busy with the plan they had already laid out. No, the child would have to go somewhere else.

Immediately, Michael thought of Serendipity. The Muse had only recently arrived, but he knew he could trust her. And she would be better equipped to watch the child than a human protector. He could only hope that Lucifer had no need to harass the Muse. After all, she would not be as big of a threat to him as the angels would be. It was this that convinced Michael that Serendipity was the only chance for Bobby now. He wrapped the child up in a blanket, knowing it was folly to attempt to wait until nightfall to whisk the child away. Lucifer and his followers would be watching night and day, so there was no time like the present. He tucked the child in the crook of his elbow, his other hand resting on the hilt of his sword, and traveled as quickly and quietly as he was capable of.

Serendipity was suspicious at first when she heard the knock on her door. She had been left alone thus far, despite all the warnings from the angels that Lucifer was on the loose and causing mayhem. However, a quick peek through the hole in the door assured her of her visitor. She opened the door wide enough only for Michael to squeeze in, then she quickly shut and locked it once again. A soft cooing sound drew her gaze to the bundle in the angel's arms. The muse's eyebrows raised in question.

"This is Bobby. He is my charge, I suppose you would say. His mother is dead. I need you to protect him, Serendipity. It is crucial."

The look on Michael's face was stony, but Serendipity could sense the turmoil burning under the calm facade of the angel. Immediately, she nodded and held out her arms, gently taking the child and cradling him against her chest. He was a beautiful baby. She wondered what could be done for him after this was all over, orphaned so young.

"If Lucifer finds me..." she began, but Michael held up a hand to silence her.

"He cannot, Muse. You must keep that from happening. Keep quiet. Stay hidden. The fewer that know the child is with you, the better."

Serendipity nodded again, looking down at the infant and letting him squeeze her finger in his tiny hand. "I'll guard him with my life, Michael. Don't worry."

Michael nodded. "I know you will. Thank you, Serendipity." He turned, preparing to leave.

"What if something happens to you?" The question was quiet, but the angel heard it, turning to see Serendipity looking almost sad. The angel didn't have an answer. He knew it was very possible that he would not succeed, but he couldn't imagine anyone else he could trust Bobby with. If he were to be killed, it was all over. He merely shook his head and murmured a short answer to Serendipity just as the door closed behind him.

"I don't know."
