WHO: Peter Petrelli and Chris Halliwell.
WHAT: They're in a relationship and they live together. This means they occasionally hang out.
WHEN: Now-ish.
WHERE: Their apartment.
RATING: TBD.
STATUS: Incomplete.

The craziness seemed to have stopped for the moment, which was good because Peter had exams this week and he really didn't want to have to deal with explaining to his professors that he hadn't had time to study because of pirates. And dinosaurs. And he really missed the days when the reason he missed a shift at work was just that he'd been kidnapped by the government or had to go fight a serial killer...not that he wasn't thrilled that Gabriel was past that...or had yet another crazy family crisis to deal with. It probably said a lot that those were his version of normal problems. But even with the fact that Colligo made his problems at home seem almost simple, he didn't want to leave. Things here were easier in a lot of ways, and he was happy for the first time in a long time.

It had something to do with the way his family had seemed to lose a lot of the drama here, as well as gaining new honorary members, a lot to do with the man who was reading a book on the sofa, and a little to do with the coelurosauravus gliding around the room. Max, as he had taken to calling the reptile, had found his way in during the dinosaur situation and had stuck around. He found himself growing fond of it, and it wasn't like they could take him to the shelter. Peter had never had a pet, so he definitely wasn't going to complain, and he was sure he'd seen Chris being nice to it when he thought he wasn't looking. He was lying on the floor, flipping through one of his books and once again thanking his eidetic memory for the fact that he would probably pass his exams. He would have been failing without it.

Every so often, he'd glance up at Max or over at Chris. Finally he set his book to the side and sat up. "Are you ready for your exams?" he asked curiously.

Chris' life had come to a level of weird where he no longer became irritated with every little thing. He'd come to a point where he tended to just accept whatever this place threw at him. Outside of the minor freak out over being sent back in time (you can't blame him. He was a Halliwell. They had a greater tendency of finding themselves burnt at the stake), he'd rolled with the punches as if they'd been the most natural thing. Tampered water? More sex with his boyfriend. Pirate ships? Well, he'd always been a bit curious about that lifestyle. Yeah. When he'd been ten but it'd still be an experience. Dinosaurs? Now he had one as a pet because Peter had thought it'd be a great idea to keep one. Other than rolling his eyes and sighing, Chris hadn't given much protest. This was a drastic change from a few months ago. Hell, it was a drastic change from most of his life.

He never thought that he would but he'd found himself settling in this place. It helped that even though it was crazier than what he was used to in his world, that he was actually alive. It also helped that family tended to show up here on a regular basis. Sure Mel had left and that hurt more than he admitted to himself; Chris was trying this new thing. Called optimism. It was difficult but it was working alright so far. It wasn't exactly a new outlook on life - he would always be a worry wart and pessimistic and bitchy - but it was a ... a new method. One that had been inflicted on him by his true-blue, hero, earnest as pie, boyfriend. All of this? The being okay with the dinosaurs. Not taking being the only Halliwell left in Colligo as hard as he could have. All of it was because of Peter.

And to think that he would have never even given the other male the time of day if his aunt Billie hadn't reminded him of his duty as a whitelighter.

Chris looked up from his book at Peter's question, shrugging slightly. "Pretty much. I'm as ready as I'll ever be." Although his tone was casual, the days from now until the exam would be filled with studying and fretting and glaring. He might be more relaxed about some things, but nothing short of a lobectomy could make Chris Halliwell a completely laid back individual. "What about you?"

If it was Peter's fault that Chris wasn't wound so tightly any more, that he was loosening up and not getting so stressed out about everything that happened, he was more than happy to take the blame. He worried about Chris a lot, because he cared about him and worrying came with that, and he felt like the stress the Whitelighter felt sometimes would overwhelm him if he wasn't careful. Especially if the city kept tossing trouble their way.

So, yes, he was happy that Chris was learning to relax just a little. He would never want Chris to change completely, if he did he wouldn't be the man Peter had fallen for, but he didn't mind the shift in his reactions. He knew he caused a lot of Chris's stress, but he could hardly change the insanity of his life. Luckily though, things seemed to have calmed down lately, pirates and dinosaurs aside.

He smiled fondly at Chris's response, shaking his head. "So, in other words, you'll be grouchy and stressed until exams are done?" he asked. "I guess I'll just have to take it upon myself to make sure you don't work yourself into the ground." It was a task he was perfectly happy to undertake. When Chris asked about his own studies, he shrugged. "If I didn't have an eidetic memory," he said, "I'd be a lot more stressed. And I know it's practically cheating, but it's not an ability I can turn on and off. It's always on. Besides, it's not really different from just having a knack for remembering things." He wasn't really sure if he was anticipating a lecture from his boyfriend or giving voice to his own guilt about how the ability made things easier while Chris and Claire had to do it the old fashioned way.

Chris made a slight face at Peter, "Funny." Though that didn't make the words any less true. Chris could be a jerk in general. A mean one. He was a good guy but sarcastic tended to be his default mode. Being stressed tended to make him an even bigger one than usual. However, despite the 'not amused' look he had just shot Peter, a small smile quirked his lips. He really wouldn't at all object to any distractions Peter through his way. Was he thinking about sex? Mostly. Could you blame him? He was a young man in his twenties and his boyfriend was highly attractive. Nonetheless, that was the only thing. He wouldn't mind some quiet time with Peter outside the one that came from post sex snuggles. Still. Chris could be ridiculously single-minded. "We'll see how that works out." Was all he said. He knew better than to protest that Peter wouldn't be able to distract him, by now, because he knew that the other male could be damn determined in his own right.

"Peter. Stop." Chris said. He loved his boyfriend and heaven helped him since this was one of things he did love about Peter, but the other man could feel guilty about the weirdest things. "I know that if you could turn it off, you would. But you can't." Slight shrug. "So stop worrying about it." And he meant it. Did it mean that it wasn't irritating and that that ability, among some others, didn't frustrate the hell out of Chris? No. It didn't. However, he got over it. If he felt that said abilities would have been too much of a problem to deal with, he wouldn't be with Peter at the moment. He knew that Peter was a good and honest man.
