Meg seemed like a kind young woman. Nick couldn't say much more, because he really didn't know her well enough yet, but he was fond of her. It seemed like she had been through a lot in her life, and it spoke to a protective instinct in him. The instinct that led him to look out for Abby and Connor, and that had him offering his sofa to Stephen. Part of him didn't want to leave, in case the younger man had a nightmare, but he couldn't hover over Stephen forever. And Meg needed someone right now. He didn't want her wandering alone at night, and he wasn't going to fall asleep again tonight. May as well do something.
He didn't think Meg would appreciate him coming to meet her in his vest and pants, in fact it would likely scandalise her and send her running off screaming, so he grabbed a pair of jeans from beside his bed and pulled them on along with a pair of boots. He knew he hardly looked presentable, and Jenny probably would have cringed at the sight of him, but he got the sense that Meg wouldn't really care how he dressed. Besides, it was late. And they were going to the mall, not to the opera. Casual clothes were just fine as far as he was concerned.
It took him a little while to find Building C, he was surprisingly hopeless when it came to maps and he usually just let Stephen figure it out. Once there, he spotted the girl and gave her a small but warm smile. "Meg?" he questioned, just in case it was some other girl wandering at night.
