WHO: Claire & Wash
WHAT: Claire meets her new room mate and understandably freaks out.
WHEN: Tuesday afternoon.
WHERE: Claire's room.
RATING: Low.

In the few days since she had lost her ability to hear, Claire had grown accustomed to it. She'd even gotten use to quickly circuiting her small apartment every ten minutes or so, just to keep an eye on things she'd normally be able to hear. Aside from the evil-people-might-kill-us thing, she didn't really see what everyone was complaining about. As far as she was concerned, they were just unadaptable.

Also since she'd gone deaf, Claire had begun reading more. She'd never really had time to read when she'd been working for the Dollhouse, just because it was such a demanding job, and had found herself missing the somewhat calming effect of lounging and reading a good book. She'd acquired several books on varying and eclectic topics earlier that day and was now sitting on the sofa in the main room with a cup of tea, reading and occasionally glancing up at the front door.

As it so happened, somebody turned the knob just as she was glancing up at it. She froze in place, her cup halfway to her mouth, suddenly very tense as the door swung open (she was pretty sure she'd locked it. Hadn't she locked it?)

Wash was exhausted. That flight through all those Reavers really wiped him out, so it couldn't be helped that when he saw he had a room waiting for him, he made a bee-line for it. Plus there was the whole nearly dying thing. He still wasn't entirely convinced that he didn't die, but either way. He needed a nice, long nap.

It took him a minute to get his bearings and figure out where, exactly, these apartments were, but eventually he found the place. As much as he lived for flying, it was good to be on solid ground again. Even if he wasn't sure where the ground was, exactly. Once he found the door that, literally, had his name on it, he made quick work of unlocking it. He reached up to rub at his eyes quickly as the door swung open, effectively covering his face for a moment. But, once he pulled his hands away and opened his eyes once more, he saw a woman standing in the room. He quickly realized that the other name on the plate must belong to her, so he gave her a friendly smile and a wave. Wash would have then introduced himself, but he'd already realized that there was no sound around here.

Stupid weird maybe-afterlife.

When Claire saw who had just entered her room, she froze to her spot. Typically she considered herself to be pretty level headed and good in crisis situations, but right now she was too scared to even really think anything.

After he smiled and waved, she came to her senses and dropped her book and cup, not really caring where they landed, and retreated to the kitchen to see if she could find something to arm herself with. Couldn't go to her bedroom, there was no way out from there, couldn't get through the window, door was blocked. Her brain in overdrive, she tried to think of a reasonable way to get away from the situation and as far away from him as possible.

She was hating this place more and more by the day.

Okay. That wasn't exactly the reaction that Wash had expected. But, then again, she might not know that someone else was living there? And the whole not being able to talk thing? Not helping the situation. Frowning, he looked around the apartment from where he stood, but wasn't really all that surprised when he didn't see anything to write with laying around near him.

He knew better than to go after her with his hands not showing. His time in the war had taught him as much, as did his time with River when she was at her freakiest. So, he inched his way towards the kitchen behind her, keeping his hands out in the open. When he got there, he held out one hand, palm up, and made sort of a writing motion over it while mouthing the word "pen". He didn't want to hurt her, but he was thinking that maybe if he could tell her he's Wash, her roomie, she'd calm down some.

Having both found an appropriate steak knife to defend herself with and seen that he was unarmed, Claire was able to calm down a little (but not a lot, because he could probably kill her with his bare hands anyway). She shook her head slightly when he motioned to her asking for a pen. Keeping her eyes locked on him, she edged along the wall, trying to get around behind him so she could get away.

"Stay away from me," She mouthed as clearly as she could, still holding the knife in front of her.

At the sight of that knife, Wash's eyes went wide and his hands went strait up into the air. He nodded quickly at the crazy, crazy woman and backed himself against the closest counter. He didn't want that knife any closer than it already was. In fact, he would have preferred if it was further away. Or at least in the drawer.

Slowly, he lowered one of his hands to point at himself. "I'm your room mate," he mouthed at her before quickly putting his hand back up. He dodged one sharp object coming at him that day, he didn't want to end up having it replaced with another one. "My name is Wash," he mouthed slowly, pretty sure that she wouldn't understand what he was trying to tell her. But he had to try anyway.

Although his reaction is not something she would have expected from a crazy psychopathic killer, Claire knew that Alpha was incredibly good at playing parts, and on top of that, liked to mess with people. Taking the opportunity, Claire edged out of the room and quickly fled down the hallway, not really sure where she was going to go but content to just get away from him. She thought of a million things she should probably do (tell everyone. find a new place to stay. get a better weapon) but focused pretty solely on running at just that moment.
