|[ WHO ]| Rachel Gatina, Cooper Lee
|[ WHERE ]| Her apartment building
|[ WHEN ]| January 8, 1:40 PM
|[ WHAT ]| Coming home from getting a job
|[ OPEN ]| To whoever

She had a job. Rachel Virginia Gatina had gotten herself a job doing what she did best: stripping. And she started the next night. Lucas and Brooke were here. Brooke was pregnant. They both wanted her to be a godmother to their kid. Geez, that fact still surprised the hell out of her. But that was Brooke. She was always surprising her. And apparently Lucas Scott would be no different. But some surprises were great. And, though she was still quite unsure of her status as a Godmother - seriously, what would she teach the kid? How to dance on a pole or manipulate people into doing what they wanted? - she was still glad they asked. It made her feel like maybe there was hope for her yet. That maybe, despite what Brooke had said once upin a time, people could change. And that maybe, just maybe, she was one of those people. It would certainly be a nice difference to how things had been before, back in Tree Hill.

She'd stopped off to grab dinner - nothing more than three large bags of Chinese food - and then headed home. Living in the same building as Brooke and Lucas made her feel a little better. Things were good. And getting better all the time. Soon she'd have way more in the bank and then she'd be able to really set herself in and start making herself at home. There wasn't too much left to do, after all. A couple of pictures of Brooke and Lucas could be gotten from them, she was sure. And it wasn't like she had access to any pictures other than them, so there wouldn't be any other pictures to worry about getting. She had yet to meet the other girl she was sort of living with, but aside from that, there wasn't much left to do. Except, of course, let herself in with her key. Which she'd do once she reached her door.

Cooper decided to take the stairs to his room.

He got to the second floor and saw someone who looked really familiar.

"Rachel?" he asked.

That voice. She knew that voice. And she'd seen his entry in the network when he arrived. Surely whatever force brought her here couldn't be as cruel as that, could it? To put him anywhere near her?

Turning slowly, her hazel eyes widened and she found that, yes, it could be as cruel as that. Son of a bitch. Son of a fucking bitch. Why him? It could be anyone on earth but him. Hell, she'd rather it be Haley Scott than him. She'd rather it be Victoria Davis. Anyone but Cooper Lee.

Clearing her throat, she tried to compose herself and gave him a tight smile. "Hi, Cooper."

Yeah it was her.

He really didn't know how to feel about that. He hadn't seen her in so long.

"How've you been?" he asked, his voice a little cold.

"Do you care?" she asked, curiously, trying to find the key to her door. She didn't want to be here in his presence. She didn't want to be under his judging gaze. Being there brought her right back to high school and her own mistakes. And how she felt for him.

Sighing, she closed her eyes and rolled her shoulders. "I'm alright. Holding my own." Where were her damn keys?!

Did he care? There was too much history between them and she'd lied to him. He honestly didn't know if he did care.

"Should I?" he asked.

"Good. I'm glad you're alright," he said, his voice neutral. He remembered vividly the last time they'd spoken. He'd told her to get out. He'd really hoped in that moment that he'd never see her again. Seeing her again made him feel such a mixture of emotions. Hurt, pain, anger and something else he really didn't want to think on. They couldn't go down that road again.

Should he? Rachel would have liked to say yes, but there wasn't much she could figure as to why he would. So she went with the more obvious answer. "Probably not," she replied with a shrug, as if it didn't hurt to say it.

She may be able to hide it with her body, bot not in her eyes. It was a good thing she just glanced at him.

At his answer, she nodded again, swallowing. Finally... her keys. Sticking the key into the keyhole, she gave it a turn. "Well, uh, I guess I'll see you around. Maybe."

He noticed the look in her eyes when she glanced at him. He didn't want to hurt her but she'd caused him a lot of hurt and pain. He really didn't know how to feel about seeing her again.

"Yeah, maybe," he said, turning to walk away.

"Sorry you got pulled here."

Sorry for a lot of things. That he was pulled here, that she was pulled here... that apparently they were in the same building - oh yeah... had to love that one. And about their past.

Pushing her door open, she made her way inside and took a breath.

He looked back at the door when she said that.

"Yeah, you too," he said, despite the fact that she couldn't hear him.
