|[ WHO ]| Jo Harvelle
|[ WHERE ]| Her new apartment
|[ WHEN ]| Christmas; 10:00 AM
|[ WHAT ]| Jo's first Christmas in Colligo
|[ OPEN ]| Claire Bennet, Dean Winchester and anyone who may drop by to see them

This was her first Christmas in Colligo. Hell, this was her first Christmas since being back from the dead. She hadn't known where she was going to spend it, or if she'd be spending it with anyone, but here she was... spending it in her apartment... sort of with people who knew her. Except Claire didn't seem to be here and she didn't know where Dean was. There wasn't even a tree in the place. Shouldn't there have been a tree? And some kind of decorations? She remembered at Harvelle's... at Harvelle's there were always decorations and a tree. And presents for the hunters that may come through. Because everyone deserved a present on Christmas.

Which was why, even without a tree, there were gifts set out for Dean and Claire, and even a gift for Castiel. But aside from the gifts, Jo had actually cooked. Because Christmas wasn't Christmas without Christmas food, even if she had to eat it on her own. Because she'd made haystacks, chicken & dumplings, even some pecan pie cookies. There were other foods as well, and her apartment smelled like it, but she had only fixed herself one plate for now and settled in underneath her blanket to watch Christmas movies. The only thing that really remained was to see if anyone dropped by. And if not, well, more food for her, she thought as she tipped her beer to her lips.

Castiel knew little of the human celebration of Christmas and there was nothing comparable in Heaven. He did not understand why the trees we suddenly inside the houses or why they had furry streamers about them. He did not even consider the representations of angels impaled on top.

Castiel knew almost nothing about what Christmas had become but he did know it was considered an important time to spend with family and he had family here. Not in the sense he had always understood family but in a sense he had only recently began to discover.

He was not used to knocking but Dean had been insisting lately and so he did, a cautious knock, three times, on Jo and Dean's door.

Dean had stepped out long enough to go by Claire's new place, still with the Jedi, leave her Christmas present outside the door, knock and run away. Well, not run away, so much as walk away really fast. Yeah, he was still awkward around Claire. But, to be fair, he had every reason to be awkward around Claire right now. When he got back to the apartment, he saw Castiel knocking on the door and grinned. "Hey, Cas," he said, moving to open the door and gesturing his friend inside. "Merry Christmas."

Once inside, he looked over at Jo and smiled. "Merry Christmas," he said cheerfully, coming over to give her a hug. He was glad to have her around, especially after what Zachariah had said. "Had to go step out for a bit, but I'm back now. I got gifts for y'all, if you want 'em."

Claire could do this. She could walk down the hallway, to the apartment that still had her name on the plaque by the door. She could knock on it, she could go inside, and she could give the Christmas presents she'd bought for her friends to her friends. She could give Jo her present, and Dean his, and if Castiel was there she could also give him his gift. Yes, it was likely going to be a bit awkward, but she could do it.

She had to, she told herself. Things might be... strained, with Dean right now, but Jo was her friend and Castiel was her friend, and she was an adult and Dean was an adult and... she had to do this. She just did. Not for Dean, not for her, but for the people who would be hurt by her absence.

Besides, Claire thought as she slowly made her way down the hallway, she wasn't going to stay for too long. She had family to visit, too. Her dad and Parker. Peter and Angela. She needed to go by Gabriel and Elle's, and stop by Nathan's as well. She had places to go, things to do, and the first stop on her list might be the most difficult but she had to do it.

Now standing in front of the door, she drew in a breath and exhaled softly. "Just knock," she muttered, even though she knew she could also just step inside. Her key still worked just fine, thank you very much. But, she wouldn't. She would knock because that's what people did when they weren't staying somewhere for a while, right? Even if most of their stuff was still inside the apartment, they knocked and waited for someone to invite them in.

Finally, she managed that much. A soft knock, knuckles light against the door, in the hopes that maybe nobody would hear her. Or maybe nobody was there. Or maybe...

Her luck seemed to all but run out as the door began to open. Her arm fell back to her side and she forced a smile onto her face. She could do this. It was Christmas and, even if it killed her, she could put aside the utterly dumb mistake she'd made, if only for the holiday.

To say that she was surprised when two people made their way in was an understatement. And when... what was his name... Dean. His name was Dean. When Dean hugged her, she was even more surprised. She didn't figure she really should have been here. Just that he was the protective sort and since he knew her, he wanted to keep an eye on her. Hell, she'd been thinking at one point that she'd gone from being one person's burden to another, but she'd leave it for now. Stick around to see where the pieces fell. And then after that, she'd make her decision. And if things got too hectic, well, she'd just stay gone. Go hunting at night, since she didn't really sleep, stay out during the day, something. She'd be busy soon enough. There was that to look forward to. And besides, she needed to get some target practice in anyway.

The one thing she couldn't deny, though, was the fact that Dean's arms made her feel safe. She couldn't explain it, but there it was. Instead of trying to pick apart that feeling to discover why it was there, Jo instead looking between the two men and ran a hand through her hair. "There's food on the stove. Feel free to grab some. All home cooked and ready to be eaten." She'd expected to eat it herself, but one had to be at least a little bit optimistic. After all, if she hadn't been optimistic, maybe she'd have never gotten to come back. Or... well... she remembered that she saved someone before attacked. Maybe if she could remember who that someone was, they could help her out.

"There are some gifts as well." She looked at Dean and pointed to his door. "Yours are over there." Smiling slightly at Castiel, an angel who seemed to not mind her presence much at all, she stood and turned, making her way to her own room. "I didn't know where to bring yours, so I was kind of hoping you'd stop by. This is your gift," she replied, coming back out and handing the angel a box. "Do you eat or... do you just kind of look at people in disgust when they have to eat?" She still wasn't completely convinced that all angels weren't douchebags. She was waiting for the other shoe to fall.

Hearing the soft knock on the door, Jo stood and made her way to it. She could at least be polite and answer it. On the other side, she found Claire, and she smiled softly. She was feeling pretty awkward with all these people in one place. Strange, because she could remember Christmases at the Roadhouse being pretty crowded, but at least she knew people. But she could know people here too. "Hey. Claire. Come on in... I mean, it's your place, of course you'd come in. There's food on the stove. Warm food if you wanna stick around. And your presents are by your door." She stepped back, allowing room for the other blonde entrance.

Dean greeted Castiel with a smile and the typical blessing of the festival. "Merry Christmas Dean," he said stiffly as he followed his charge into the apartment.

The air was heavy with the smell of cooking food and Jo was there in the apartment. It made his job easier to have his two charges together and he was glad to see Jo again. He had developed a fondness for her on their first meeting a little beyond the confines of his duty. As he approached her she smiled at him and spoke of a gift. He was surprised when she pressed a large box into his hands.

"I can eat though I do not require it." A pause. "Today I will eat," he added as he held the box. He kept holding the box. It was a curious gift and he wasn't sure of its use but it was a gift and so he valued it.
