Who: Lois Lane and John Winchester
What: Going shooting. Getting to know each other.
When: Monday night.
Where: There is a shooting range in Colligo, so it's there.
Rating: Probably not all that high.

Lois was having to deal with a lot lately, and it was getting to her, even though she wouldn't admit that part to very many people. Between taking care of Mel, being in yet another world, and having to deal with the fact that the Sam that was currently in town didn't know her at all, it was just a little too much. And she was glad that Andrea stepped up and agreed to watch her daughter for a while because she really had some aggression to work out and the shooting range seemed just the place to go.

She didn't have any guns of her own here. She had a couple back in her word, a few she'd taken off of some government agents back in the last world, but so far nothing here. Which was alright, she supposed. She had a daughter now, so she had to think about that. Sure, Mel wasn't even two months yet, and Lois was certainly going to teach her not to play with guns when she was old enough, but still. The kid didn't need to start with them quite as early as Lois did.

It wasn't hard for her to find the place and she quickly parked her silver convertible before heading into the building. First place she went upon entering was the gun counter. After all, she needed to rent a hand gun and buy some ammo for the night.

John consulted the map in the phone book, matched up the address that Lois had given him, and once he had it in his head, he went downstairs. The garage was quiet at the moment, so John pulled down the tailgate and lifted the cover as his arsenal bloomed out.

Handguns were the order of the evening, so he picked out two, a pearl-handled 9mm that looked very much like the one Dean carried, and a snub-nose .38 revolver. One went in each jacket pocket, and he loaded up with enough ammunition to at least get him started, and he put the truck in gear.

The range was easy enough to find, and he pulled into the first empty space he saw, a few down from a silver convertible, and headed inside. He recognized Lois from the pictures he'd found of her on his PDA, but he hung back for a moment, waiting until she'd stopped talking to the man behind the counter, and then approached her. "Miss Lane?"

Lois had settled on a Browning Hi-Power. It was a 9mm and had a good bit of kick to it, but she didn't think that she was out of practice to the point that the kick would be an issue. Besides, if she was that far out of practice she would just take it as a sign that she needed to come do this more often.

As she picked it up to look it over and snagged her box of ammo with her other hand she heard someone saying her name. She turned to face John Winchester with a smile on her face, knowing who he was instantly from his pictures. "That'd be me," she started simply. "You can just call me Lois though."

Miss Lane just sounded too formal, especially since he was her daughter's grandfather. Besides, Lois had even talked most of Oliver's staff into calling her Lois a couple of years ago.

"In that case, you can call me John." He came forward, holding his hand out for a shake. "Browning's a good choice; mine's a Glock 9," he added, pulling his out of his pocket to show her. "I've also got a snub-nose if you want to try it a little later, after we've exhausted the rounds for the nines."

Lois set the box back on the counter so she could reach out and shake John's hand in turn. "Oh, I know. I've shot a bunch of them before," she said with a smile. "Glocks aren't too bad either. I've dealt with them before, too. Snub-noses, on the other hand, I haven't dealt with. I'll have to give that a try at some point." After growing up with the General, Lois Lane sure did know her way around guns. And around fights. Both of those things came in handy back in the last world when she was running around as Stiletto

"I've always liked Glocks better than Brownings, but I think it's more a personal preference than anything else," he admitted. "I've always felt like a Glock's got a bigger grip, and more heft. It doesn't feel like I'm gonna crumple the handle when I have to grab it and pull the trigger. I'm best with shotguns; we usually load them up with salt and they've saved my life more than once." He looked down at the gun in his hand. "But I imagine you know all that already."

Lois chuckled a little at that. "Well, I've got smaller hands so Brownings work out just fine for me," Lois said simply. "I don't have a problem with Glocks though. A couple of the guns I took off some knocked out government ages back in the last world I was in were Glocks and they worked just fine for me."

At the second part, however, Lois paused for a moment before nodding. She still thought it was weird that she'd gotten to know one Sam so well, but he was gone and replaced with another, younger, Sam, and that she'd met the man in front of her once before, but it wasn't really this version of him. "Yeah, actually. I was filled in on that."

Plus she actually had made it through the first three years of Supernatural after getting to Colligo. That was... weird. She couldn't watch any more than that.

"I'm sorry. I'm just not used to someone believing what I say outright; I'm much more used to having to sit down and lecture and convince people that I do know what I'm talking about and I'm not full of bullshit," he admitted with a sheepish laugh. "You probably already know how to get one, but if you need a gun safe or lockbox for your place, I'd be glad to help you look to pick one out, cause you sound like you know how to handle a piece."

"Yeah, well," Lois started, chuckling softly at his comment about people usually not believing him. "For one thing, I'm a reporter It's in my nature to go with the crazy stories, even if it's just for a little while. Plus, I'm from Metropolis. I don't know if that means anything to you but apparently I'm in comic books or something in another world. Metropolis has it's own share of weird stuff going on. We've got people with superpowers thanks to being infected by meteor rocks, among other things."

"And I might take you up on that eventually," she added with a shrug. "Either way, I know my way around guns. My dad's a General and he made sure I learned how to handle them early on."

"No kidding." John's attention was caught by the General. "Some day I'd like to meet your old man; I was in the Marines myself, so yeah, I'm sorry. I don't have to worry." Seems like Sammy had picked himself a hell of a woman, even if he didn't know it.

"He's Army," Lois said, shrugging a bit as she moved away from the counter and towards the actual range part of the building. "He's not here though. And even if he was in the same world as us, you'd probably have a hard time tracking him down. He doesn't tend to stick around." Really, she had probably only seen her own dad once in the last three years. Or was that four years ago she'd seen him last? Either way, the man wasn't exactly known for keeping tabs on his daughters.

"Absent father? Bet Sam and Dean could commiserate with you on that. I wasn't the world's most present parent, either." He tilted his head, watching and listening to Lois. "Sounds like you're just as much a survivor as my boys are. I can see some of the things that might've attracted Sam's attention for certain."

Lois had already heard about John not being around all that much, and yeah, it was something that she could understand all too well when she talked to Sam and Dean about it before. But, she just shrugged instead of telling him that. "I've never really been much of one to just take it when crap is thrown at me," she said honestly. "Instead, I tend to put up a hell of a fight most of the time."
