Who: Lois Lane and OPEN. And Mel will be there, too. But she can't exactly talk or do much yet.
What: Out shopping. Perhaps running into someone.
When: Wednesday evening.
Where: At least starts the streets on the way to the stores.
Rating:
Probably pretty low. Lois has been trying to watch her language around the kid and everything.

Had Lois Lane suddenly ended up with and extra ten thousand dollars a year earlier, she would have just blown it all on shoes, clothes, whatever struck her fancy at that moment. But that was because a year earlier she was single (which she was again) and didn't have her daughter. In fact, she wasn't even in the same dimension as her daughter's father at that time. But now, Lois had to be a Responsible Adult. Caps and everything. She didn't really like having to be one, but hey. Couldn't change things that already happened.

Plus, she had gotten pretty attached to the little one.

But the point was, Lois had to be a Responsible Adult, and she had also come into a pretty large chunk of money. She planned on getting a couple of things for herself, sure, but Mel came first, and she needed some things. So Lois had buckled the baby up in her car seat and headed off to one of the shopping centers in town, ready to get some diapers, more baby clothes (none of which would be pink. At least she wouldn't have to have that argument any more), those sorts of things. It didn't take long for her to get there, get Mel moved to her stroller, and start towards the building.

Jo wasn't kidding about the fact that she was going to take a vacation from work. She liked bartending in all honesty, but it was starting to wear on her nerves, especially since Dean had worked there with her before he disappeared. Plus, being around all that alcohol wasn't the best idea when her nerves were so shot that she wanted to do nothing but drink. A break was a win-win situation.

It had been a long time since she splurged on herself, and even though Jo was going to be responsible with her money in spite of the fact that she and Claire had a running joke about avoiding such a thing, she thought a little shopping spree for some new clothes would be a good idea.

As she was heading in the direction of a store that looked like it sold women's clothes that wern't extremely girly, a hard find from time to time, Jo caught sight of a familar face pushing a stroller.

"Lois, hey," she greeted as she crossed over and approached the other woman. She then smiled down at the little baby in the stroller. "And hey to you too, kiddo."

Lois looked up when she heard someone calling her name, then smiled when she saw who it was. "Hey, Jo," she said simply, pulling Mel's stroller to a gentle stop as she stopped walking. She was pretty sure that she hadn't really met the other woman too often in person, but they talked enough over the past couple of months on the PDAs to be glad to see her just then.

Besides, Jo was the only person from her world that remembered her. Okay, so maybe she hadn't tried with Sam and Dean's dad yet, but seeing as they only spoke once in the last world she was in, there was no way that Lois Lane was going to be all "Hi, remember me? I had your grandkid?" Especially since she really didn't plan on telling this new Sam that Mel was technically his daughter.

"Did you come into a wad of cash, too?" Lois asked, that smile still on her face.

"I did," Jo replied with a light laugh, nodding. "I keep wanting to know what the catch is, and then after I get over that I figure I should just spend some before whoever gave it out decides to take it back." Probably not the smartest idea, but oh well.

Glancing back down towards the baby, Jo couldn't help but smile a little bit wider. While she was probably the least maternal person in the world, not even knowing how to take care of a goldfish properly, she did like kids.

"And how are you doing, huh?" she asked, squatting down for a moment. She didn't reach into the stroller or anything, but she allowed herself a few gushing moments before straightening up again. "How are things going?" she asked Lois, becoming a little more serious.

"Trust me, I'm trying to figure out the catch, too. After all, that's part of what I do for a living, finding the catch." Lois Lane was a reporter, after all, she knew that nothing ever came for free.

She smiled at the attention Jo gave to her daughter, but that faded only slightly when the other girl's tone became more serious. "They're fine," she said, shrugging a bit. It wasn't entirely true, but she didn't really like discussing feelings and issues with people. It wasn't just Jo, but it was just about everyone. It was rare that she was found confiding with anyone, and usually she had to have several drinks in her. Usually.

Okay, in all honesty, sometimes people could drag it out of her without drinks, but Lois liked to pretend that wasn't possible.

Jo couldn't imagine everything being fine for Lois. She had a baby, and as if that wasn't difficult enough on it's own, the father had no idea who she was, and was even younger than the original version had been. Even though Jo had her own issues she was tackling at that point in time, she knew that had to be tough. Still, she wasn't going to force anything out of her. It was Lois' business.

"That's good," she replied casually, not making a big deal out of anything or voicing her thoughts. "You want some company? We could get something to eat in the food court too if you want."

"Sure," Lois's smile was more natural then, thankful that Jo wasn't pushing it. Or, that she wasn't pushing it yet, at least. You never knew with people.

"We were just coming down to spend some of my new money on Mel. It isn't taking me long to realize that it's going to take a lot to raise this kid." Even though she was calling her daughter 'this kid', Lois really did mean it with love. She had never been a kid person at all before she had her daughter. In fact, they tended to freak her the hell out. They still did, actually, and all her years of avoiding them hadn't really taught her much about raising kids. Thankfully, in the last world that Lois had been stuck in, she'd known Mary Winchester and had gotten several good tips from her.

"I bet," Jo replied, beginning to head off into the direction of a store that pracitcally screamed 'BABY.' Maybe that was because it was called Babies R Us, but whatever. Details. She didn't mind putting off her own shopping to give Lois a hand, either.

"So what is it today? Clothes, toys, diapers? Or a little bit of everything?" Jo was kind of all thumbs when it came to baby shopping, so maybe this would be helpful for the future. Or not, since Jo didn't see kids in her future -- ever.

"All of the above," Lois nodded once more. But hey, seemed like Jo didn't mind heading into the baby store, and that was fine with Lois. Sometimes it felt really awkward walking around in there with her daughter. Sure, it was made for baby shopping, but some days it seemed like everyone else in there was there with their husbands, wives, whatever. But, Lois tried not to let that sort of thing bother her, and usually it worked.

"Especially diapers. She goes through those things like they're free, and trust me, they're not."

"Ohh, so she's a poop machine," Jo replied with a laugh, peering down into the stroller with a grin. "It's always the innocent ones."

Glancing up at the wide array of baby...everything that seemed to fill the entire place from floor to ceiling, it was very obvious Jo had never been in such a place before. "Geez. Do you even use half the stuff they sell in here, or am I just completely underestimating motherhood?"

Lois sighed, looking around as well when Jo did. "No, I don't. But, I have a feeling that it's just a matter of time before I end up going through this entire store." That was, of course, if they didn't get sent home first. And Lois was entirely convinced that if she was sent home, Mel would be going home with her. Man, wouldn't that freak out everyone she knew back in Metropolis. Or, at least the ones that didn't know already thanks to this place. Or the one before this one.

"Shopping here gets pretty redundant. You can only look at different kinds of diapers so many times before you start to wonder why there needs to be so many different kinds." Okay, so maybe Lois didn't hate this place as much as she tried to let on. Sometimes she kinda liked getting toys and clothes for her daughter.

Jo whistled quietly, then looked over at Lois with a small grin. "At least you know you'll always have a place to go if you need something you didn't expect. This is like a baby emergency store or something..."

Moving forward and poking at a huge stuffed animal of a puppy dog with big eyes and a floppy tongue, Jo had to laugh. "Man, I wish I had some of this stuff when I was little. I would've even killed for a different kind of diaper."

"And trust me, I'm glad that there's one place I can go for just about everything. It's Wal-Mart for babies in here," Lois said seriously. As much as she loved going on shopping trips, she would have hated it if she had to go from store to store searching for baby things. Shopping for kid stuff wasn't quite as fun as shopping for grownup stuff.

And god, Lois was having to think of herself as an honest to God grownup these days. That was weird.

"Lucky for me, both me and Lucy were out of diapers before my mom died," Lois said almost as though the death of her mother was nothing. But, considering it had been nineteen years, she was pretty much past that drama. "Toys, on the other hand, I don't think any kid thinks they have enough toys."
