WHO: Martha & Christine
WHERE: Colligo mall
WHEN: Friday afternoon/early evening
WHAT: Shopping, yogurt and people watching
STATUS/RATING: Incomplete / Low

Since she had been here, Christine had flatly refused to buy more clothing than she deemed absolutely necessary. For the first two weeks, she had worn only her Starfleet uniform. It had taken some stern convincing from Doctor McCoy for her to buy another set of clothes. Now, nearly five months later, she still only had four outfits, one of which comprised of a tank top and sweat pants that managed to be already ratty despite the fact she'd only owned them for a few months. But since Doctor McCoy had disappeared, Christine had finally given up hope of going home. She seemed to be one of the unlucky ones like Captain Kirk, or the Bennett girl, or Martha, who didn't flit in and out of Colligo. She thought that maybe they were different somehow, but didn't like to meditate on it too much.

In any case, she'd decided that she needed more clothes if she was going to be staying here indefinitely, so she'd dragged her friend out to the mall. However, after only an hour of trying on clothing, Christine was already tired of it. Despite her love of shoes and buying them, she really hated shopping for clothes. So she'd suggested they get frozen yogurt, which was the new love of her life, essentially, and somehow getting a snack had turned into a prolonged game of people watching. They were sitting on the edge of the fountain, watching as people wandered by.

"That guy's name is Jennifer." She informed Martha tersely as a hulky lumberjack looking kind of guy went by. "His parents wanted a girl."

Martha had been generally reluctant to head over to the mall, but she did have to admit that Christine needed new clothes. She liked sweatpants, really, she did, but she considered it her duty as a friend to get that girl another pair of pants. If only that hadn't meant shopping.

Still, she was having a pretty good time. It'd been ages she'd left the clinic to do something simple and fun, and she'd been feeling duller than dull. Frozen yoghurt was the perfect medicine. Martha wasn't sure how their conversation on the merits of cold dairy products had morphed into the longest game of people watching she'd ever played, but she didn't care. It was fun.

"Obviously!" She laughed as the the lumberjack guys turned to look at the two women giggling like schoolgirls as they perched on the fountain edge. "He does jazzercise, probably. I can see it in his thighs."

"Not just anyone can have toned thighs like that." Christine agreed as she waved somewhat coyly at the man, being as they already had his attention and all. She'd hate to think she was to blame for a blow in some poor lumberjack's ego, so she might as well make him think they were flirting with him. She set down her yogurt cup when she was done eating it and stretched. It was kind of nice to take a day off from work. Martha and Christine practically lived in the clinic, even though it seemed like nobody ever injured themselves anymore. The last time they had had anything interesting to do had been shortly after the fire when a girl who had jumped out a window came in with shards of glass mysteriously trapped under healed flesh and a fever of 107.

She'd been kind of scary, truthfully. This was much more fun than talking to irritable people who may or may not be humans. "I still need to go to Target or something, everything here is so damn expensive."

Martha winked coquettishly at the burly man, ignoring the fact that she was a. engaged and b. blushing a furious crimson. Her mind flashed briefly to Tom, probably worried sick back at home, but she quashed the thought as fast as she could. Last thing she needed was to start thinking of home again, not just as she'd started getting used to the idea of being here forever. Not that you really got used to that sort of thing. Besides, Tom knew her so well; he probably thought she was off travelling.

"It's mad, really, it is," Martha agreed, nodding vigorously. She felt a little guilty for zoning out. "Eight dollars for ice cream? It's practically a crime."

"And it's not exactly like we're getting a cushy salary." Christine added, chewing on her plastic spoon between her sentences and contemplating the rest of the day. They should probably finish up and get back to their waiting for something to happen duties, but this was just so much more fun. Even so, if something bad was going to happen that required their services, it was bound to be the day that they were away. Christine had her phone on, anyway. The EMH would contact them if they were needed.

"Where do you want to go next? Do you need anything?" She asked, realizing she had been kind of dragging Martha to all her favorite stores instead of asking her if she had any preferences. She was considerate like that.

"Maybe you're not," Martha grinned, "I'm practically rolling in it." She lean backwards and stared up at the sky, her hair falling perilously close to the water. A few unruly strands grazed its surface. "Okay, not really," she amended, "But it's more than I made as a student." She checked her hip reflexively, looking for a pager she no longer wore. That probably wasn't very smart, now that she thought about it. Maybe she'd pick some up on the way back. After all, there was probably some enormous emergency going on at the clinic right now. Whatever, the hospital was still there, right?

"Oh hm," she mused, riffling through her small bag of purchases. She didn't really need anything, and to be honest, she was more than happy to just tag along with Christine. "Erm, books, I suppose? Books'd be nice. Don't need much though, not really. You have any places in mind?"
