WHO: Dawn & Troy.
WHAT: Dawn + basketball = hilarity, but Troy promised not to laugh. ;]
WHEN: Shortly after this.
WHERE: Outside Troy's building, then the park.
RATING: TBD.

Dawn was about ten kinds of excited to be going out to play basketball with Troy Bolton. Dawn had been guilty of singing along to the High School Musical songs when the movie first premiered, and just like any other red-blooded American girl, she had had a huge crush on Troy. Him showing up here in Colligo was crazy enough, but after talking to him for a while and being invited to play basketball with him, Dawn was practically on cloud nine. It was about time something exciting happened!

She knew she would end up making a complete fool out of herself, since Dawn wasn't exactly the most graceful or coordinated person in the world, but Troy had promised not to make fun of her, and she kind of figured he was the type of guy to keep his word. After making sure she looked somewhat attractive, Dawn raced out of her room, left her building, and quickly made her way to the front entrance of Building C.

On the other side of all of this, Troy was pretty much failing to see the whole link up with Buffy, the name Dawn, and a chick who looked really familiar like she's been in something he's seen. He's still getting used to all the weirdness of this place, so it's bound to take time before everything clicks in.

His attempts at getting ready and presentable mostly consisted of realizing he had nothing more to wear other than the general casual look of hoodie, jeans and converse- Good job he's just playing basketball, really- and then coming to realize he had no time to mess around anyways. So a minute or two later he's slipping his PDA into his jeans pockets and loitering around outside Building C for Dawn's prompt arrival.

"Hey there, stranger."

Dawn had to really struggle to keep her composure when she actually saw him, but there was absolutely no stopping the large grin that took up her entire expression, and she figured that was okay. There was nothing wrong with that, right? He probably didn't know he was 'fictional' anyway, and Dawn knew what it was like to find out something like that so soon after arrival, so she didn't want to stand around acting like he was a big celebrity or something. He was just a normal guy. ...Yeah right.

"Hey," she replied, walking up to him with her hands shoved in the pockets of her hoodie. "We can walk it, it's not that far. Come on." She nodded off towards the opposite direction, then starting walking, knowing he would follow. "There's a big bin of basketballs, bats, gloves...everything a jock would love." She smirked a little at that.

It's always nice to be greeted with a grin like that and even so, Troy's almost used to the whole celebrity treatment thing, if only thanks to being Mister Popular at high school. Who didn't want to hang with the Bolton, really? Not that he ever boasted about such, seeing as he was strangely modest and polite and accepting for a head jock.

"That's music to my ears," he smirks back, trailing quickly after her and keeping up step alongside. "You can never go far wrong when there's a basketball and a hoop nearby." Or some good music to sing along to, but he didn't need to admit his TOTALLY SEKKRIT love for singing to strangers. Durh.

"Well, I don't know about that," Dawn replied with a light laugh, shaking her head a little. "Seems like I can always go wrong with a basketball and a hoop. Or a soccer ball and a net. Or a baseball and a glove." She wrinkled her nose up a little, then shrugged with another laugh. "Well, you said you wouldn't laugh, and I'm holding you to that promise."

Dawn could already see the very edge of the park's fence up ahead. Usually there were some younger kids on the swings and the slide, and sometimes there were guys playing basketball, but she really hoped it was empty. It was bad enough if Troy saw her tripping over her own two feet and totally missing the basket by a mile, she didn't want an entire audience.

"See? Just up ahead," she said, pointing out into the distance.

Whereas you give Troy any of those items and he'd keep himself entertained for aaaaages. Simple things please simple people.

As they approach the park he squints over towards the court and nods his approval, quickening his pace just enough to hint that he needs to play ball right this second or he may just explode from lack of basketball. It's been a day or two now without his precious distraction of shooting hoops, so the poor guy can hardly be blamed. "Hey, at least it looks like a good park. I've totally seen worse."

Aaand he might just be starting to reach out to try and tug Dawn along with him.

"This place does have a few good qualities," Dawn replied with a small grin. Colligo tended to suck a lot of the time anymore, but Dawn found that it wasn't entirely bad. It was getting progressively worse the longer she spent there, with the fear demons and the boredom and people disappearing...or reappearing not having any idea who you were...but she found ways to get by. What else could she do?

Suddenly, Troy's hand was extending and latching onto her own, and she was being pulled gently yet eagerly in the direction of the park. It was impossible not to want to let out a little squeal, and she almost did before the sounds of smaller children squealing cut her off. There were a few playing in the section with the swings, the teeter-totter, and the monkey bars were situated, but no one was actually on the court. Thank God.

Colligo already seemed ripe for the woe, considering Troy's already battling with bouts of emo just within the last few days, all because of being alone and away from his friends, his family and most importantly, his girlfriend. Still, he's been trying to make the most of a pretty bad situation, and all woe is pretty much forgotten by the time they've entered the court.

Finally releasing his grip on Dawn, he's going straight for a basketball, giving it a few test bounces back and forth between his hands before he's steaming off down court to go for a quick jump shot. "Awesome." Happy Troy is happy! :D

Dawn was glad to see Troy happy again, because it kind of went against nature if he wasn't, but that didn't mean she was exactly eager to grab a ball and just start shooting baskets like crazy. She couldn't even walk and chew gum at the same time, let alone dribble and run and jump and shoot. Troy had his work cut out for him if he thought he was going to turn Dawn into some kind of pro-athlete.

"That's so not fair," she replied, standing a little awkwardly near the free throw line -- at least that's what she thought it was called -- and watching him do his thing.

"That was just a warm up, sorry. You can have the ball now, here," he sprints back towards her, and rather than forcing a hefty chest pass at her, he goes for a light underarm throw in her direction.

And just like an adorable puppy type, the second she's got the ball, he's bounding away towards the hoop and looking all eager. "Okay, show me what you got!"

"That's not exactly what I meant..." she replied with a sheepish lopsided smile. "It's not fair that you're so good. That's gonna make me look ten times as bad." Not that her actually taking the ball and trying to do something with it wouldn't do that anyway.

She managed to catch the ball when he threw it to her, but barely. With a deep breath, she tried to ignore all the bad memories from gym class and began to dribble the ball a little. Once she was comfortable doing that, she took a few steps forward. So far, so good. Then, she quickened her pace a bit down the court. Well look at that, she wasn't doing half bad! When she was close enough to the net, she just lobbed the ball upward without really lining anything up...and the thing came right back and nearly hit her in the face after slamming off the edge of the backboard.

She put her hands up to protect herself and let out a squeal as the ball came plummeting back toward her. "See?" she said with a laugh. "I suck."

"You're not gonna look bad," he assures, lingering under the hoop as if ready to defend, but just watching her instead. He figures that deep down, no one can be terrible at basketball because basketball is awesome and pretty much everyone in his school- including his girlfriend- are pretty good at it. East High has messed up his judgment on all of life.

Just like he promised, he's not even laughing at her attempts, he's just waiting like a good boy until she takes the shot, watching it's rebound and bouncing after the ball to retrieve it.

"You don't suck! That was just some, uh, not so brilliant aiming. You just gotta learn how to get the ball in the hoop, right?" To be fair, he deserves awards for not laughing at that squeal she did.

Dawn could feel the heat rising in her face even as Troy told her a few encouraging words to make her feel better. She knew she sucked, and her aiming skills were far from the only problem she had, but at least he'd kept his promise. He wasn't laughing.

"If you say so..." she mumbled, glancing from Troy to the hoop and back again. In spite of her embarrassment, she grinned at him and shrugged. "But okay then. Teach me."

Troy's all about the encouragement, especially when he's said he'll help out. Plus this gives him something to do which is way more fun than just shooting hoops by himself.

"Okay. First off, you gotta take your time. It's only you and me here, there's no one else trying to get the ball off you, so you've got time to stop and think about your shot.." He's taking a slow stroll up to the net, ball dribbled casually and once he's a few meters off he stops, makes a show of actually pausing and theeeen.. shoots! And obviously easily gets it in. "See! Now you try."

He made it sound so easy, and he made it look even easier. Dawn was just starting to wonder if this had really been such a good idea after all, but then she pushed those thoughts aside. She had to loosen up. How often did one get basketball lessons from Troy Bolton? Dawn had to take advantage of this, whether she made a fool out of herself or not.

Taking the ball again, Dawn tried to mimic Troy's movements exactly. It was still a little shaky, but she slowed down and took her time, lining up the shot properly before throwing the ball. And it went in!

Dawn was squealing for a different reason now, and there was a wide grin on her face to accompany it. "I did it!" she shouted, hopping up and down with excitement.

Just to be on the safe side, it's probably best he steps back this time in case the ball shoots off to some random direction and he gets it in the face. His face can't be getting any battering.

"Alright! See, you've totally got it," he encourages, hopping back over to her with a cheer. "You just gotta get your aim sorted and you'll be a pro."

Okay, so maybe he's laughing just a little bit.

After a few moments of reveling in her shot, which she knew was just a bit of dumb luck more than anything else, Dawn stopped her cheering and hopping and reached up to push her hair back and away from her face. "Easily excitable when I do something I know I usually suck at, sorry," she said.

She glanced back up at the hoop, placing her hands on her hips. "I don't think I'll ever be a pro, but it's nice to know I can make one shot at least."

"Hey, even one shot is better than no shots," Troy assures, bounding away to retrieve the ball again and tossing it back to Dawn. Really, she's not so much playing basketball with Troy Bolton, but more so playing fetch.

"Okay, c'mon, try again!" Poor boy is far too easily amused. And this time Dawn can even get a running commentary from Troy doing his commentator voice.

Catching the ball when Troy tossed it to her again, Dawn grinned in response to his words, dribbled a bit, and then took another shot. It bounced off the rim but didn't go in this time. She didn't miss so horribly like last time though, and it really helped that she was taking her time and not trying to shoot baskets like she was a pro. She wasn't even close.

"Think I could ever be a Wildcat?" she asked with a laugh, not even realizing what she'd said until it was too late.

Troy pays some attention to her method, if only so he can offer up some advice. He's taught plenty of people basketball before and it does help that his dad's a coach. ... Actually, he'll avoid thinking about his dad, it just causes epic emo at the moment from the thought he might not see his parents again.

"Oh, absolutely. Honorary Wildcats are allowed, especially ones that really try," he half-laughs back, snatching the ball as it bounces off the ground and just about to go for a shot when something slowly clicks into place. "-- Are you from Albuquerque?" How else would she now about Wildcats? D:

Dawn froze, her large eyes widening even more as she finally realized what she'd potentially done. Troy didn't need to know he was fictional. No one needed to know that, though, and she supposed if he was going to find out -- which he undoubtedly would -- it was best to do it gently. Still, she didn't want to be the one to break it to him.

"Uhh...no?" she replied, though it was weak and she knew it. "So...I'm not so bad, huh?" A nice attempt to change the subject, but she could practically see the words crashing and burning right there on the court.

It crashes and burns pretty hard, yeah. Especially seeing as Troy's a simple jock and struggles to focus on more than one thing at once, so right now all concentration is going into thinking up ways of how she could possibly know he was a Wildcat. He even looks up and down himself quickly to check he's not wearing any of the school gear, but nope, nothing of the sort.

His brain hurts from thinking so hard and everything, but then out of nowhere, he's pretty sure he's suddenly got the answer, because he's a fricken genius. Gabriella, step aside, there's a new smart geek in town. "Dude! Are you psychic?!"

Dawn visibly winced, then shrugged a bit helplessly and stepped towards him a few paces. "No. No...I'm not psychic. I..." She paused for a moment, wondering how she should go about this. "Your girlfriend is Gabriella, your best friend is Chad. Sharpay and Ryan are twins, and while Ryan isn't so bad, Sharpay is like the biggest bitch ever and she wants you all to herself like whoa. You're the star player of the basketball team, the Wildcats, and...you sing. A lot." Another shrug. "I...saw the movie."

Way to break it to him gently, Dawn.

"I dont... sing.." There's a brief attempt at arguing that point because he's a super cool jock and stuff that doesn't enjoy laaaame things like singing, but he gives up pretty much immediately. If she knows names, then he can't even guess at what else she may know.

Even if he still doesn't get it.

"Are they here? Do you know them? Is Gabriella somewhere? Have you met her? What about Chad?... Wait, what movie?"

He didn't sing. Who was he trying to kid? Well, Dawn couldn't blame him for denying it, and she wasn't going to insist on the fact that yes, he did sing, and yes, he was pretty good. What she was already telling him was bad enough.

"No, they aren't. Um...listen. This place is weird, and you know that, right? Well...it gets even weirder. Some people here are from worlds that are...fictional in other people's worlds. Like for instance, I'm from a television show about my sister who's a vampire slayer. And you...you're from a movie called High School Musical."

Dawn's getting a blank stare that seems to last a stupidly long chunk of time before Troy's suddenly bursting out with, "BUFFY!" It's like he as ADD or something, really. "Dude, I totally used to watch that! She was so hot. But then I had school and homework and practice and just like, no time to watch the newer series stuff sooo..."

Oh, hey, he got distracted from the point for a second there, and it's only now that he's paused again to think on the situation that he can start realizing a few things. "High School Musical? That sounds... weird."

Dawn jumped a little when he shouted, and she almost rolled her eyes when he mentioned thinking Buffy was hot. She probably wouldn't have minded so much if she was on better terms with Buffy here, but seeing as how she had no idea who Dawn was, it had put a sort of rift between them. She managed to keep her expression neutral -- and not jealous, no, not at all -- for the most part though.

"Yeah. Buffy," she replied dryly. "But yeah, that's what it's called. It's not bad, though! I mean, I liked it, and about a billion other people liked it too. There's girls all over the world with posters of you on their walls and stuff..."

Troy just forgets that he's speaking sometimes, it's like words are coming out and he's not even listening to himself, so he'd apologize for a) calling her sister hot, and b) mentioning Dawn was equally hot if he'd even realized he'd rambled about it in the first place, but he's already forgotten about it. Maybe he'll redeem himself later.

".. Of me?" Aw, look at him go all bashful and awkward as he squints shyly and stuffs his hands into his pockets, shoulders hunched and ball tucked under an arm. "Eeh. I'm not. I mean, that's just. I'm just a normal guy. That's got to be the most boring movie ever. There's not even like, vampire slaying or demons or anything cool."

"Yeah, a normal guy who's also hot," she replied, and by then it was Dawn's turn to, once again, talk without thinking about what she was going to say beforehand. She really needed to double-check that brain filter of hers, though she wasn't sure if she ever really had one to begin with.

Again, Dawn's face flushed, but she tried to pass it off as just a general statement, one that she hadn't included herself in. "You don't need vampires or demons to be cool." That was what Dawn tried to tell herself day after day, anyway.

"I'm.." OH GOD, people need to stop pointing out his attractiveness because he's yet to learn how to react to such compliment. Maybe if he just shrugs awkwardly it'll seem like a suitable response.

He's also still trying to work out how anyone can be cool and worth watching without stuff like vampires and demons, but he's failing to understand the concept. "So, are you really like the little sister of Buffy or whatever? Cause I mean, technically, this is like having your own show now."

At least the subject of Troy's unbelievable hotness was dropped for the time being. Though the next topic of conversation wasn't really all that pleasant either. In that moment, Dawn would have preferred to be embarrassed rather than reminded that once again, she was just Buffy's little sister.

"Yep," she replied with a small shrug. "But no, it's definitely not like having my own show. It's, you know, hers. I didn't even come in 'til later."

Troy's unbelievable hotness is undoubtedly something rabid fangirls can discuss and bicker over for many years, but he'd rather it be dropped, yes.

"Yeah, but you're like the plot point. Which makes it your show. So there." And for a moment his posture changes to being upright and finger pointy and srs face! "Don't argue with me, I must be right cause I have a movie with me as star basketball player or whatever."

Dawn did in fact open her mouth to argue the point, not because she actually wanted to argue it, but it was really the way she felt. Buffy was Buffy the vampire slayer and Dawn was just Dawn. It was kind of nice to hear Troy say that she was so important and all of that though, since it wasn't something she heard too often. Or at all, since she didn't talk about the show much.

"Okay, okay, no arguing," she replied, lifting her hands up in defeat. "But, um...thanks. For saying that." He probably wouldn't know how overshadowed she tended to feel, but she didn't mind. She just wanted him to know she appreciated it all the same.

"Yeah, you're welcome," he replies with a small nod, entirely clueless to the whole overshadowed issue going on. Besides he's now busy distracting himself with a casual toss of the ball right towards the hoop, scoring an easy basket with zero effort.

"So, if this is really real, like this TV and movie stuff- not saying I think you're lying, but it seems kinda unbelievable- but yeah, if it's real, have you seen your own stuff?"

"Not that much," she replied, shaking her head and watching him as he shot another basket. "I mean, there's that sort of morbid curiosity and you can't help it, but at the same time you don't want to watch too much of it. It's just too weird to see someone on TV who looks exactly like you, and is doing things that actually happened in your life."

She had only watched a handful of episodes, mostly just the ones she was in to see if everything matched up. And it definitely did. And then there was that musical one, but Dawn really didn't like even acknowledging that existed. High School Musical was one thing, Once More With Feeling was another.

But Troy liked the musical episode the bestest! Not that he'd ever admit to that to anyone except maybe to Gabi, but still.. musical stuff was kinda cool, he'd decided.

"Right. I mean, it'd be kinda cool to see, but I'd be worried I'd come across as a total douche or something, y'know? Like, we all make mistakes, and trust Hollywood types to show all the worst bits." He's kind of already forgotten he's got the movie with him in, mostly because he's tried to mentally block the idea from memory.

Dawn laughed a little, shaking her head as she moved to take the ball from him suddenly and try another shot. She wasn't overthinking it, and so the ball went smoothly into the hoop. She took a brief moment to do a victory dance in her head, but then she turned her attention back to the conversation.

"You come across as...probably the most un-douchiest person in the world," she told him. It was a Disney movie, what else could be expected?

There's applause from Troy too, for any small basketball victory is one to be celebrated. Plus it means he can go get the ball again, shoot another easy hoop before passing it back to her. He's slowly starting to get back into the groove again.

Secretly, deep down somewhere in Troy's sparkly Disney soul, he's glad to hear he's not too bad in the movies. "Yeah? So they left out the bits where I drink the blood of innocents and eat babies and stuff? Awesome."

"Yeah, but if you watch the bonus features and all that, they do show some of those things. You'd swear you were sitting down and watching an episode of my show." She smirked a little at that, and it was the first time she'd ever talked about the stupid thing in a positive light. Or a possessive light, at that.

She took another shot and missed, but not by much yet again. As long as she stood in one place and threw the ball the same way over and over, she wasn't too bad. Of course, that wasn't really playing basketball, but it was a personal triumph.

"I was just setting myself up for a cross-over like this. I'll totally behave if you're my slayer though, cause you can slay me any day." And with a typical Bolton wink, he's shooting another basket, and then finishing it with a triumphant twirl on the spot and finishing pose. He can deny it all he wants, but he's clearly made for the stage with the amount of showing off he does, even if it is in jest.

This having company thing is good. Especially when it involves basketball. It's just when he returns to his room and has to spend yet another night away from his precious Gabi that he'll slowly turn to the emo side. :(

Try as she might to act as though Troy was just any other normal guy within the city, Dawn couldn't help the Troy Bolton fangirl moment that completely took her over for a moment there when he said those words and gave her that wink. She tried to think about Gabriella, and she'd always liked Gabriella, but the other girl wasn't exactly there right now. There was nothing wrong with a little fantasy inside her head, right?

"You better. I have easy access to all kinds of very dangerous, very pointy weaponry. One wrong move and -- " She ran her finger along her throat, making a loud cracking noise as it she was slicing her own neck.

It's not as if he's suddenly telling the world he's single anyways, Troy's just a naturally flirty sort of guy, among his charm and his constant jokes and his love for close contact. It's not even like he understands the concept of being with any other female that isn't Gabriella, because Disney's pretty much programmed him that way. Sad really, considering he's in his prime and has all the cheerleaders (and most other girls in East High) after him.

"Uh-oh. I'll keep on my best behavior then, just for yooooou~" With a little sing-song at the end there. He already misses singing.

Dawn couldn't help but notice the irony in the fact that he sang his heart out in the movie, said he didn't sing at all here, and now he almost sounded as if he wanted to burst into song on the spot. She thought about just letting it go and not bringing it to his attention, but she really couldn't help herself.

"I thought you said you didn't sing," she teased, hands moving to her hips as a smirk formed on her mouth.

... Curses, he's been caught. Before he can shoot another hoop, he's freezing on the spot straight after the question and then not so casually covering it up with a throw that hits the backboard and totally misses. Damn.

"I don't!" He retorts without hesitation, arms folding defensively. "Dude, I was in like... two school plays, that was it. And that was just to keep my girlfriend happy or whatever. I wouldn't have even been in them if she wasn't around."
