WHO: Kaylee Frye & Leonard McCoy
WHAT: OMG a date?!
WHERE: One of those restaurants in town
WHEN: After this
RATING: PG
STATUS: In Progress

It was a hell of a thing. Something that Kaylee wasn't even completely sure how to deal with. Part of her really wished Inara was here so that she could have someone who knew how to handle these things around that she could get advice from, but right now, she was forced to wing it. Just a day before, Simon had finally said what she'd been waiting for him to say for so long, but now, now she wasn't so sure that it was timed right. It seemed like so much, so fast, such a sudden turn. And with the other doctor interested as well...

She really wished there was some diplomatic way of going about this, somehow she could manage it without hurting anyone. But she couldn't see a way to do that yet, so instead, she was going to live her life and weigh her options. She enjoyed both of their company, after all, and there was no reason for her to deny herself one just for fear of hurting the other.

Checking her appearance quickly in the mirror, Kaylee headed out of her room, waiting until she heard the knock on the door and pulling it open, smiling up at Dr. McCoy, "Heya."

McCoy was nervous, mostly because he hadn't really been on a date aside from a few disastrous blind dates he'd stupidly allowed Jim to set up for him since his divorce, but he refused to admit to it. He showered and pulled on something from the closet, a pair of dark colored jeans and a blue button down shirt. He debated on a tie for a long moment, before deciding that Simon probably would. A moment later he decided that no, he did not want to look like a douchebag. He then left the top two buttons undone. See. He was perfectly capable of getting dressed without Jim's help, no matter what his best friend might say.

He ran a hand through his hair in a nervous gesture before kissing Joanna on the cheek and thanking Uhura. He'd promised to babysit Jim if Spock ever showed up and they needed a night off. He was nervous and excited, and the walk next door seemed to take forever. He reached Kaylee's door and knocked, smiling when Kaylee opened the door.

"Hey," he said. "You look really pretty, darlin'."

Kaylee couldn't help but blush. She'd been more than used to guys telling her she was pretty back home, but those were mostly farmers and miners, nothing to get too worked up about even if they served their purpose in the end. She'd been more interested in her machines than men for the most part, anyway. They were nice enough, all right, but sometimes, they really were more trouble than they were worth.

They had continued to be true in most aspects, but that didn't mean that she could just turn her back on them all together. No, there were good aspects there, certainly. Mostly the fact that she seemed to share far more in common with guys than she could ever claim with most other girls and got along with them far better. Inara and River being notable exceptions.

Grinning up at him, Kaylee stepped forward, reaching up and adjusting his collar with a quiet affection, "Well, well, don't you clean up nice and proper?"

Well, McCoy may have been many things, but he was a southern gentleman and he was looking for more than a quick tumble. His momma would have been ashamed if he'd ever thought quite that way. Lucky for him, he never did. That wasn't to say he didn't think about Kaylee that way. He was a man and he wasn't blind. But he wasn't going to rush that and definitely not on the first date.

He'd been out when he first asked her on the date, so he'd taken the time to acquire a small bouquet of wildflowers. Wasn't proper to come without a gift. They were shades of yellow and white and he smiled, slightly embarrassed. "I..." he trailed off. He was awful at this. "They reminded me of you."

He let her straighten his collar, flushing slightly. "Thank you," he said, feeling like he was seventeen again. "You really do look pretty...not that you don't always look pretty." Seventeen and nervous as hell. "You ready to head out?"

Kaylee was both amused and appreciative, not used to seeing someone so clearly flustered around her, as she reached out and took the bouquet, inhaling their scent and straightening out the petals as a very soft blush fused her cheeks, "They're lovely," she said, her voice quieting before she looked back up at him and nodded. "Ready and waitin'," She said with a teasing grin.

She might not seem it outwardly, but she was as nervous as he was. She'd debated rather solidly with herself about whether this was truly a good idea or not, but in the end, her enjoyment of his company had won out over all other issues that had been tossed her way. There weren't as many things to worry about here as she was used to, though, so there was no reason to try and invent things to be a bother.

"Where are we headed?"
