The kiss could have easily turned desperate and needy if they let it, but they didn't. It was relaxed and comfortable, a reflection of the way their relationship was these days. They weren't children anymore, nervous and caught up in newness and excitement, or young men anxious and scared that any day could be the last. They were settled, in a way, which wasn't to say that they didn't need this the same way they needed to breathe...they did...they just managed to fill that need in a different way.
"It was nothing," Remus assured him with a small smile, "compared to what you went through. I'm stronger than people give me credit for, you know. But...I'd still prefer to keep you here as long as possible." He sighed. "Don't talk like that, Sirius. No one could possibly take me from you. I promise." He settled back down against Sirius's side. "Go to sleep, love. I'll still be here in the morning." And he rested his head against Sirius's chest, content at the steady rhythm of the other man's heartbeat under his ear and the subtle rise and fall of his chest.
