It was good to see Molly doing something so normal for a child her age. She had been through so much, and Mohinder often worried that it made her life more difficult, particularly with the lack of consistency and constant relocation. He hated that she had been torn away from the first bit of constancy in the last few years, but part of him was relieved to have her here, where he could protect her. Besides, he'd missed her more than he wanted to admit. With Matt gone back to Janice and his son, and creating a life with Daphne before that, he'd felt rather alone since sending her to stay with his mother.
Still, maybe that was selfish. If she was back there, then he'd know she was safe from Danko. And that was the most important thing. "What are you colouring?" he asked, reaching down and tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. He picked up one of the cookies and took a bite before drinking some of his tea, just sticking close to her. It made him feel better.
"We can only hope," he said with a sigh. "I'm not really sure how to feel about that. But I want to believe that he can change...if only because it means that there is one less threat to worry about. I think we should give him the benefit of doubt...if only because Bennet or Peter would have said something if he was dangerous."
He glanced over at her. "Molly," he said, "if it ends up that we're here for a long time...or even if we make it back home...well...I know you're close to Matthew, and he has a very stable life and would be able to take care of you...but, I've been thinking about it for a while and...well...would you like it if I adopted you...officially?"
