WHO; Cher Horowitz & OPEN
WHEN; early evening
WHERE; Colligo Mall
RATING; TBA

Cher sat outside the Forever 21 she worked at within the Colligo Mall. She looked frustrated and lost -- hell, she felt exactly that way. She'd been doing so well in this city so far and today, she just...hit that bump she just knew was coming, but hoped never would. She had tried to argue her way into getting answers from the people who claimed they'd always lived here and had ended up frustrating her manager so much, she'd nearly lost her job. It wasn't her fault she kept telling her the same useless things!

"I just want to go home," she said, more to herself than anyone else, and bowed her head as her hands climbed into her blonde hair. "I'd kill for a ruby slippers clause about now."

Hermione hadn't really become accustomed to Colligo life yet, but having so many people she knew here, even children from the future, really did help make things a little more manageable. Of course, knowing a person didn't always mean it was a good thing, which the young Severus Snape had already proven, but Hermione wasn't going to let it get her down.
Since she couldn't go back to the library for various reasons, she decided to seek out one of the bookstores in the mall. She only had a hundred dollars, so she would need to be careful, but she figured it would be okay to spare some for a new book or two.
On her way to the store, she caught sight of a girl who looked to be rather upset. Unable to help herself, she approached her gingerly and asked, "What's wrong?"

It was a little out of character for her, but Cher hadn't exactly been the friendliest of people since she got here. She was nice to people, but her social life was close to being nonexistent. Maybe it was because she'd been at the top of the social chain back in California for so long that she'd forgotten how to get there and how to mingle without people simply wanting to talk to her on their own because she was pretty and popular and lived in Beverly Hills.

How utterly shallow, Cher, she thought, scolding herself. Tai was right about me.

Thankfully, the girl approached and spoke up before Cher could cave to the wave of self-pitying tears that were welling up behind her eyes. Thank God. The last thing she needed to do was sit here and sob in public about being yelled at for asking too many questions.

Looking up, she forced a small, appreciative smile. "Oh, it's...nothing. Really. Just a little homesick."

Hermione nodded and offered a small smile to the girl when she mentioned being homesick. Even though Hermione had been brought to Colligo at a time when being back home was pretty awful, she still really wished she could find a way to get back.

"I know what you mean. This place is...well, there isn't really any proper way to describe it, is there?" She laughed a little, but it wasn't a very vindictive sound. "Everyone says you get used to it, but I don't know. Seems impossible to me." A pause, and she held out her hand. "I'm Hermione, by the way."

"Oh, adapting is way overrated," Cher agreed with a laugh, acknowledging the introduction and the accent attached to the girl's voice. "I'm Cher. Cher Horowitz." She shook the girl's hand.

"Couldn't help but notice your accent. British, I take?"

"Nice to meet you, Cher," Hermione replied. "And I think you're right about adapting. Sometimes you just have to jump in and hope for the best."

She smiled, nodding a little. "Yes, that's right. Can't hide it very well, can I?" She laughed a little as well, glad that Cher didn't seem to look so gloomy anymore. She was sure their little conversation so far hadn't solved her problem of feeling homesick, but at least she was smiling, and Hermione figured that was better than the alternative, how she'd looked before.

She was being agreed with? Well, that was certainly new. Lately...well, lately when she was still in Beverly Hills and not wherever the hell this Colligo place was located, she'd been feeling like her opinion and impute didn't matter diddly squat, that she was just some spoiled ditz with a credit card who wasn't meant to try and have a voice in anything. Like a vase of roses. Simple, elegant, yet meant to just be there and add a pretty accent to the world. Uhg, as if. Like she could sit still for that long. It was nice to be heard again, though.

"You shouldn't hide it," she said with a grin, feeling a bit peppier now. "It adds a nice almost exotic flare. Says, I'm interesting in a way you're not -- which, by the way, is totally a good thing."
