Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
WHO: Lily Luna Potter and Albus Severus Potter.
WHAT: Dealing with Albus's issues.
WHEN: After this post.
WHERE: Albus's flat.
RATING: TBD.
STATUS: In Progress.

When she'd seen Albus's question, Lily hadn't bothered responding to the post. Instead, she'd just headed over to his flat. Why on Earth would Albie even have to ask about that? Nobody had explained Barbas to her, so the question just seemed very strange. She didn't bother knocking, just walked into the flat and gave Albie a look. "Albie," she said, cocking her head to the side, "why would you even need to ask me such a silly question? Of course me and mum and da don't despise you, nobody's disowned you, we're all fine with Scor, and Jamie is a prat most of the time."

She looked at him with concern. "What is this about, Albie?"

After tossing a hex at his older brother - which had turned out to be an illusion and he had therefore ended up doing a rather spectacular job of utterly annihilating the potted plant in the corner of his bedroom, Albus had left his wand on his nightstand and wandered out into the living room of his flat. He was seated on the couch when his sister came in, knees drawn up to his chest and a frown of concentration upon his face as he did his best to ignore the still-taunting voice of James that would not leave him alone.

He heard her words, and the way she spoke them brought a fond smile to his face. The voice of his older brother seemed to falter a bit as Albus did his best to believe what she was saying. Yet he supposed some of his fear must still remain (You're not really a Potter. What sort of self-respecting Potter willingly gets housed with the snakes? You're a disgrace, that's what you are.) for the voice was still there.

"I'm not sure what it is," he forced himself to speak over the taunts (Honestly, just look at you. Dad would be so disappointed. His son, named after Albus Dumbledore himself, consorting with dark wizards on a daily basis. And best mates with a Malfoy, no less.), unfolding his legs and turning so his feet were on the floor. "Mum said it's something worse than a boggart. Makes you see all your worst fears."

His gaze had been locked on a spot on the far wall as he spoke, hands clenched tightly together in his lap. He slowly turned his attention to his younger sister. His green eyes shone with a mixture of confusion and frustration.

"I... just needed to know it was all in my head. Even though I knew, I still needed-" He hissed in frustration as James' voice grew louder than his own, finally closing his eyes and clamping his hands over his ears. "SHUT UP, YOU BLOODY TOSSER, I DON'T GIVE A DAMN WHAT YOU THINK!"

Okay. Shouting at his invisible brother? Probably not the smartest idea ever. Re-opening his eyes, he feigned calm as he once more looked at Lily. "Sorry about that," he mumbled. "Won't happen again."

Lily sighed and sat down next to her brother, wrapping her arms around him and curling up against his side. "So," she said with a small, concerned smile, "you're shouting at a hallucination of our older brother. Are you sure you're all right, Albie?" She rested her head on his shoulder. "It's not real. I promise it's not. We all love you. Even Jamie, tosser that he is, loves you. He doesn't mean half the things he says. He just doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut."

She looked up at Albus and hugged him tighter. "I'll always love you best, Albie," she promised. "Even if you were a Hufflepuff and spent all day making things with safety scissors and glitter, I'd love you best. Now, stop being a prat and tell me the other room is free, so I don't displace anyone when I move in."

"No, Lilu," Albus replied in a tight sounding voice, accompanied by a weak laugh devoid of his typical humor, "I'm about as bloody far from all right as I can bloody well be." He sighed, resting his head on top of hers for a moment. And, in that moment, James' voice finally stopped.

By the time she began to speak again, Albus knew that what she was saying was true. He didn't know how, and he wasn't sure why whatever was attacking him had decided to leave him be for the time being, but he knew that his sister was right and that... whatever it was, was wrong. James was a prat at times, yes, but he did love him. They were brothers. And even if James had issues with where he'd been Sorted, his dad and mum didn't. Neither did his sister, his grandparents, and most of his aunts, uncles, and assorted cousins.

So really, even if it was James, he could just sit on it, as far as Albus was concerned.

"Me?" he scoffed, sounding a bit like his typical self again, "a Hufflepuff? You certain you aren't being affected by this thing now, sis? That'd have to be quite a frightening sight, now wouldn't it?" He gave her a half-hug, arm slung around her shoulders, before snorting at her next comment.

"Nobody else is here," he assured her, affectionately fluffing her hair a bit with his hand. "And even if they were, I'd toss them right out on their ear if you wanted to move in. You are my favorite sister, after all."

"But you will be?" she asked. "All right, I mean. You will be, won't you?" Because she loved her brother and hated to see him hurting. She hated to see any of her family hurting, but especially Albus. But she felt the change in him, and she knew in that instance that he would be okay.

"It would be terribly tragic," she said mischievously, "if you weren't in a house that matched your eyes. I don't know that your vanity could take it." Not that Albus was really all that vain, but it was fun to tease him. "Now, Jamie, on the other hand...it might do him some good. Give him some humility. Lord knows our dear brother could use it." She snuggled closer, happy that her brother already sounded better.

"Good," she said, giving him a look as he mussed her hair, "Because as your favourite, and only, sister, I get first dibs on living with you. Any hypothetical roommate would just have to relocate. Unless it was Rosie. I could share with her."

Albus chuckled softly, unable to resist messing up her hair just a little bit more. "And here I thought you'd want to grab your independence while you had a way to manage it," he replied lightly. It was only a partial joke, really. Being away from the version of their parents that they knew, as well as the rest of their family... well, it was somewhat freeing, in its own way.

Then again, Lily had never seemed to struggle with her own sense of identity as Albus had. So maybe it was different for her.

Straightening up a bit, he glanced around with only a touch of wariness upon his face. He still half-expected James to come popping out of one of the rooms at any second and start in on him again, only this time while being visible to both of them. He knew that was ridiculous, but he was a touch more rattled than he was willing to admit. He might not be Gryffindor and forced to act with massive amounts of bravado all of the time, but he did have his pride and it stung a bit to admit that he was so affected by something that he'd already been warned about and knew wasn't truly real.

Looking back to his sister, he smiled once more and - for the time being, at least - his worries evaporated into the air. She always had a way of doing that to him. No matter how dire the situation, or how foul his mood, Lily Luna was more than capable of cheering him up simply by being in the same room as him. It was baffling, how she managed it, and annoying that she could, but it was also comforting to know that some things never changed. Truthfully, he hoped they never would.

"So how odd is it to meet all of these people we never would have, otherwise?" he questioned. Albus desperately wanted a change in the subject, far away from his prat of a brother. Whom he missed, somewhat, even if he'd quite likely endure torture before admitting as much.
