WHO: Angela Petrelli & Claire Bennet
WHAT: Grandmotherly concern & packing
WHERE: Claire's apartment
WHEN: Immediately after this
RATING: PG
STATUS: In Progress

It would hardly be the first time that Angela had helped her pack a bag, but she figured that this time, she likely wouldn't end up running away from the trip before she managed to leave. The circumstances were entirely different as well, and as it was, her motherly (or grandmotherly, in this case) worry was kicking into overdrive at the idea that Claire thought the only way to deal with this situation, likely until it was resolved, was to runaway. Angela supposed she could hardly blame her. Fears that were deep and pervasive were hard to cope with, next to impossible if you didn't want to accept that they could be a possibility of life. But Angela knew that whatever you feared the most, unless it was something mythical or magical that certainly couldn't take place, was always a possibility. And the worst fears were the ones that were based on possibilities that hang just over the horizon.

Losing her family. She'd faced it ten times over by now, but it never became any less frightening, any less horrifying, and to actually have it happen... If anything, losing Nathan had simply exacerbated her fear of losing Peter. Which...as things were going, would probably happen soon enough.

But she could worry about the situation with Peter later. At the moment, her granddaughter deserved her entire focus. Slipping up next to the door, Angela knocked, reaching down and opening it up as she moved over to Claire's (and Priestly's) bedroom, peeking her head in the door when she did. "Have you got everything that you're going to need?"

Claire had two weeks worth of clothing folded into neat piles upon her bed by the time the knock sounded at the front door. A few seconds later the bedroom door opened and she gave her grandmother a smile that, while worn around the edges, was still sincere. She was exhausted, even though her ability prevented her from looking the part, but that didn't mean she wasn't glad to see Angela and she wasn't about to let how tired she was make it seem otherwise.

"I think so," she answered the question, glancing back to the various items she'd laid out. Her toiletries were in a smaller bag, her clothing was in piles and ready to be double-checked as she placed them inside the large duffel bag she was taking. Near the door, propped against the wall, was the folded up tent in its carrying case and the sleeping bag that attached to it.

The smile turned vaguely amused as she looked back to the woman and motioned for her to step inside the bedroom. "Looking at all of this stuff, you'd think I was leaving for a month or something," she commented. "I swear, I never did learn the art of packing light. Not even as a kid."

Claire didn't bother asking why Angela had wanted to see her. Namely, because Angela hadn't come right out and said as much - even though she'd understood the desire without the words having to be spoken (or typed, in this instance). And also because, it didn't matter if she asked or not. When Angela was ready to discuss whatever was on her mind, she'd bring it up... and nothing was going to convince her to talk about it until she was ready, either.

"Food," Angela said after a moment of looking at what Claire had laid out, "if you're going to be gone long, you're going to need some type of food," since part of her honestly doubted that this was going to be like the camping trips that Arthur used to take Nathan and Peter on where they had to eat what they killed. There were hardly going to be an salmon in the stream or deer in the forest, as far as she figured Claire was going, and Angela wasn't about to risk having her granddaughter go hungry. Even if she'd hardly starve to death.

Stepping into the room, Angela looked around, casting her glance over all of the items present, "And something to cook with. Have you packed a lighter, as well? You'll need a fire if you intend to stay on the edge of the city," She said, casting a meaningful glance over at the tent before looking up at Claire with a slight sadness in her eyes. Nathan would have known better what to pack than she would, but she'd gone through his pack more than once for scouts to know the sort of things that were missing among the stuff that Claire had laid out.

Claire thought about pointing out that a: she didn't necessarily need food as she wouldn't starve to death and b: she hadn't been hungry enough lately for food to even become an issue, but she knew that it would likely only make Angela worry more about her than she probably would already. So instead she nodded and responded, "Okay, I'll pick up a few things at the store. We don't have much here. I've been needing to go grocery shopping for a few days now." She just hadn't felt up to it, and was perfectly content surviving off of sandwiches from the shop Priestly worked at along with pizza and Chinese takeout, when the mood to eat did strike.

At the next question, Claire smiled and pulled a lighter from the pocket of her jeans. "I actually remembered that one," she replied with a touch of pride. "I even packed some matches, in a bag so they won't get wet, just in case the lighter gives out on me." She would have to get something to cook with, though. Thinking about it for a second, she decided a trip to a sporting goods store would probably have whatever she might need.

With a mental shrug to stop by the one not too far from the corner market near where she worked, she re-focused her attention on Angela. Studying her for a moment, Claire's voice was somewhat hesitant as she finally voiced a question of her own.

"Are you... okay? I mean, obviously you aren't okay. I'm not sure anybody really is, with the way things are right now. But you're not-" Suffering from any form of hallucinations yourself? No, she couldn't ask it like that. Finally, she settled for, "You know. Nothing's bothering you aside from the usual, or anything?"

"I'm as good as I can be considering," Angela said, offering Claire a soft smile as she took comfort in the fact that Claire seemed to be prepared. She was definitely her father's daughter, in all aspects of the word. "And no, I haven't had to deal with whatever is going around, Thankfully," Angela wasn't completely sure she could deal with having her fears thrown right back into her face. Especially because of the way that they were rather immediate already.

"When are you going to be coming back?" Angela asked quietly, glancing over at Claire as she stepped over to help her put her things into the bag that she had laid out. "We don't know when this is going to be over," She said quietly. She didn't like the idea of Claire being out there, on her own, for however long it took for them to resolve things.

"Good," Claire replied, not bothering to hide the relief in her voice. If ever there was a time to be relieved that Angela wasn't directly in the thick of things and a target, this was it. She gave her a small smile that showed that she was glad for that fact, before hesitating a moment at the next question.

"I-" She paused again, looking down at the bag for a minute. Her voice was softer when she spoke next. "I don't know. I just..." She exhaled, looking back at Angela with a pained expression. "I can't stay here. This room... the stain is still on the carpet. And it's like I can feel him here, creeping around, just waiting for me to let my guard down again."

She shivered slightly, nevermind that there was nothing to physically cause the reaction. Sighing, she tucked a few loose strands of hair behind her ear and gave her grandmother a small, sad smile. "I don't want to go," she admitted. "But, I don't think I have much of a choice. If I stay here, I'm going to end up doing something I'm going to regret."
