Who: Helen & Ashley Magnus ([info]victorianenigma/[info]notthatnormal)
Where: The Grand Library then Warehouse
When: 9/22 After This/Night
What: Helen and Ashley reunite for dynamic mother-daughter duo.
Status: In Progress/Closed

Helen had nearly discarded of the mobile device after the conversation with Ashley ended. Thinking twice about it, however, she quickly rushed out of the room that she had been "assigned" to (not that she had actually bothered to meet her roommate yet). Making sure she had the bag with the Source Blood in it, Helen raced as fast as she could to the Grand Library. Who would have thought that a woman of 157 could run that fast?

Her pace slowed as she saw her daughter in front of her. Just as she had left her. Or rather, just as she had sent her off. Helen tried to control her emotions and force them down. She didn't want to disturb Ashley or even Master Skywalker more than she already had. Instead slowly she walked over to her.

"Ashley."

Patience when expecting something had never been high up on Ashley's abilities, especially not when you were waiting for your mom who just told you that your godfather had died after being brought to... this. And she really did want another go with those knights. Pushing her PDA or whatever she could figure this out to be - technology was Henry's department - into her pocket, Ashley kept looking out for her mom. You wouldn't think that a ye olde Victorian would be hard to find, but she'd had a long time to practice fitting in.

She heard her and then, turning her head back and smiling she saw her. Ashley could count the number of times she'd felt extreme glee at seeing her, and they were usually the times when one of them had nearly died but now.... Ashley was relieved, relieved that it was her mother, that she was alright... that.

"Mom!"

Helen on the other hand was more relieved to see Ashley than perhaps she almost ever had been. She rushed over to her and enveloped Ashley in a tight hold, pulling her close.

Ashley hadn't expected such a leap of emotion from her but gladly took the hug, holding tightly back.

"You really have missed me."

Helen nodded and held her close. "Sending you into the Cabal stronghold, never knowing if I'd see you again? Losing James, and coming here? Of course I have."

"You being here for a few still doesn't sound right." Ashley released her hold to step back and look at her, even if only for a moment or to go somewhere else to talk. If Ashley hadn't arrived, would she have noticed that her mother wasn't there? It had only been minutes for her.

"Considering there are people from different times, even places here? I don't doubt it." She pulled back and her hands went to Ashley's face. A small smile came to her face, but hardly one that should have graced Helen's features.

"Yeah... this place is going to take some getting used to." Ashley gave her a smile back; at least she wouldn't be going through this insanity alone.

"What have you been doing here? You said that the Sanctuary wasn't here but... is there anything?" After committing your life to the work of the Sanctuary, Ashley doubted that a new place would have made her quit so easily, or that she even could.

Helen nodded. "I have been attempting to find a suitable location for a pseudo Sanctuary, at the least. Except things here actually require money and time to set up. And I hardly doubt we will have the privacy that we do in Old City."

"Especially when you've only got $100 and an apartment." And a roommate. But that was beside the point.

"At least The Cabal isn't here." And Nikola trying to set up a vampire army.

"Yes, for that I am equally glad of." She sighed and shook her head. "I have yet to spend any of the money given to me. Between the two of us that makes two hundred dollars. Now we need to make a plan on how to continue on."

"You've been here for weeks and haven't spent it?" That was definitely a strange concept to her, not that her job was really paid since it wasn't a job per se but she was definitely giving her money to her mom, or they'd be stuck with just $100.

"Well do we have a place? Because you know, can't really do anything without somewhere to do it."

"I was looking at the warehouse, as I've mentioned. Would you like to see it and see if it's a suitable location?" She gestured.

"If it's big it should be good, but alright." Ashley gave a nod and a smile, ready to follow wherever this warehouse was. She'd also get a tour later, getting lost was not an option.

"I'm sure the bank has a safe. Maybe you could put it in a box there? They've got locks and keys." There was the smallest hint of a mock in her explanation, even though her mother knew fully well what a bank and safe did.

Helen rolled her eyes. "I'm not sure I'd trust all the characters in this place. I've only met one individual so far in person. I hardly trust the network."

"And carrying it's that safe? It could break.... and you could get robbed." Though there was probably a gun under that coat. That was a trick that Ashley had picked up.

[info]notthatnormal

That sounded like even just a tiny promotion to Ashley. "I'm not sure what sort of kit we'll be able to get. Probably not the technology we had."

"Defiantly. Perhaps we should just start as a type of hospital of sorts. Clinic."

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]notthatnormal
2009-09-24 09:28 am UTC (link)
"That could work." She'd hope that this place would have a hospital, hopefully with full medical staff but they didn't always really work on 'just humans'.

"What about different rooms? Just one place in the warehouse might not work, and I doubt we could build walls."

[info]victorianenigma

Helen nodded. "That is why you and I will have to do some scoping out. We'll start with the warehouse and see what options we have from there."

[info]notthatnormal
2009-09-24 09:50 am UTC (link)
"Okay, scoping out. I can scope." Ashley thought for a moment, adjusting the bag on her shoulder. "How did you come up with the design for the first Sanctuary?"

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]victorianenigma
2009-09-25 05:35 am UTC (link)
"They were based off my father's designs. He had drawn them out." Helen sighed. "Of course the plans won't work like here. We'll have to adapt it as opposed to actually building our own. Though I doubt typical Abnormals are here anyways."

[info]notthatnormal

"Gives you a chance to get creative, though the old place worked pretty well." Ashley nodded; she doubted that their abnormals would be here but- What was it that Gabriel said?

"I can think of someone who might know something."

[info]notthatnormal

"He never actually introduced himself, but I'm sure I could find him again. He wasn't himself when he came here, referenced telepathy and a lot of things from before he came which kind of paralleled the Cabal." She gave a slight shrug. It was vague, but a start.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]victorianenigma
2009-09-26 01:40 am UTC (link)
The idea of a parallel Cabal didn't sit well with Helen. "Very well. We'll see if we can get contact with him again. However, we will both need to secure jobs in order to start this."

[info]notthatnormal
2009-09-26 06:30 am UTC (link)
"Shouldn't be too much of a problem I'll-" What her mother said next stopped any thought for the rest of that sentance. "'Secure jobs'? Well that's fine for someone with medical training. Me? Lets just put an ad out for 'girl trained in guns and fighting seeks work'. Great plan."

She laughed. "Ashley. Every teenager in the modern world starts small. Become a waitress for a small time. Unless you think this place is going to have reasons for a hit woman."

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]notthatnormal
2009-09-26 06:58 am UTC (link)
"I'm not a hit woman! I don't kill them unless you say that it's okay!" Though Ashley didn't think that her mom had thought this out very well; becoming a waitress involved skills that she didn't have. "That's also a bad analogy considering I'm 23."

[info]victorianenigma

[info]notthatnormal

Ashley pulled a bit of a face at her. "I'll enjoy it less than being an errand girl."

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]victorianenigma
2009-09-26 07:28 am UTC (link)
And in return she pulled a straight face. "Yes, I am aware. But sometimes in life we have to do what we don't enjoy, Ashley. Do you think I enjoy being here away from the Sanctuary? Away from the others? James is dead, I have the Source, what chance do they stand as long as we are here?"

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]notthatnormal
2009-09-26 02:39 pm UTC (link)
"You know, it's not exactly like I want to be here either. I'd much rather be back at the Sanctuary bagging abnormals and infiltrating the Cabal, I'm stuck here too." Defensive Ashley is defensive.

[info]victorianenigma

They both were. "Yes, so then it's pointless to complain about the situation we find ourselves in. Even if we make a Sanctuary here, there is going to be no bagging Abnormals."

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]notthatnormal

[info]victorianenigma

A nod of agreement. "Certainly keep yourself armed. Just, I find no Abnormals that we would need to bag."

[info]notthatnormal
2009-09-28 06:37 am UTC (link)
"When don't I?" Ashley patted where her gun still was; she hadn't been here long enough to remove it, not that she was planning to. "If there aren't Abnormals then what's the plan of us being here? Or even the point."

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

"Normal life? I don't even think that I know what that is." Ashley gave her a questionable look.
