The howl of dogs woke Dean with a start and he was lost for a moment as to where exactly he was. The room was familiar but definitely wasn't his and it was only when he glanced down and saw Jo asleep next to him that the prior night came rushing back. And his complete failure to be just friends with a girl. The thoughts didn't last long though as another howl sent a shiver down his body and he had to remind himself that dogs did indeed exist and they did indeed howl and that didn't mean it was hellhounds coming to drag his sorry ass back to hell. Dean ran a hand over his hair and glanced back to Jo to make sure he hadn't managed to wake her up. He knew sleep wasn't really something she'd been getting a lot of lately and he hated the thought of waking her up from the little she did get.

He got out of the bed and pulled on his jeans before he headed into the bathroom. Dean ran the taps and splashed some water on his face his teeth gritted together as he heard more dogs howl. "You've got to be fucking kidding me," he muttered. He was trying to remain logical about the situation but there was also the very real thing happening where everyone seemed to be living out their worst fears.

"Sorry Dean, I don't kid."

Dean jumped nearly a foot at the voice and he turned to look behind him. Of course. He smirked. "Wow, Ruby, terrifying. I thought this whole thing was about our greatest fear not the demon skank I've murdered," he spat at her and pushed past her to shut the door to the room.

"Blondie over there can't hear us," Ruby said and leaned against the counter folding her arms across her chest.

"Yeah... keep it that way," Dean threatened and splashed another handful of cold water onto his face. He just needed to wake up, that's all this was, some fucked up, stupid dream.

"You're not curious why it's me and not Lilith," Ruby started and then smirked. "Or Alistair?"

"Frankly I don't give a damn," he replied.

"Yeah you do," she countered and moved closer to him, tilting her head up at him as her eyes went black. "The reason it's me Dean is because I was your last hope. I mean Sammy felt the same too but you... well you and me were practically two peas in a pod, weren't we?" she asked with a smirk.

"I am nothing like you," Dean shot back and moved away from her. "You're a lying bitch who manipulated my brother."

"But you wanted me to be more," Ruby pointed out, her hands on her hips. "Because if I was more then maybe, just maybe there was hope for you. Because it doesn't matter how many people you save Dean, how many times you stop the Apocalypse, how many Angels claim to care about you at the end of the day you're still going back to hell," as she talked she stalked in closer to him again, "where you'll carve and dice your way through countless souls again until you come back. Just like me," she grinned as her eyes blacked over again. "Face it Dean, you needed me to be different so you could cling to the hopeless dream that maybe you could be too." She laughed and turned away from him. "Pretty pathetic if you ask me."

Dean turned to grip the edge of the counter, trying to ignore her words that seeped into him. Of course she was right. He glanced up at himself, eyes black as Ruby's in the reflection staring back at him. The howls were closer.

Ruby opened the bathroom door and Dean could hear them without even turning around, feel them barreling towards him.

Dean darted up with a gasp and instinctively patted himself down. He was in one piece. It had just been a dream. Except there was no such thing right now. And Ruby had never shown up in any of his dreams about hell before. His eyes darted around the room, half expecting her to be there still.

He glanced down to the other side of the bed, Jo was there. He got out of the bed and found his clothes, dressing quietly and hoping she stayed asleep. He would worry about what to say to her later, she didn't deserve to see him like this, or God forbid, worse. Dean grabbed his keys and jacket and left her room. He didn't head back to his though, Claire and Priestly didn't need to deal with him. Claire was still shaken up enough as it was. He'd go check into a motel, ride it out.
