Oh, God. Oh, God.

Everybody was freaking out, but MJ was here. Apparently from further in the future than he was, but he didn't care. Not yet, anyway. Right now, Peter Parker wanted his wife. While the fear ravaged Colligo, it hadn't touched Peter yet, so he was in his right mind when he went to get her (smelling much, much better now than before, thank you).

He ran. Faster than he ever had before. Seemed the dying had upgraded him, and it did nothing but work to his advantage. When he got there, he didn't even say hi; he just swept her up into his arms, holding her like a security blanket and burying his face in her shoulder.

"Peter----" MJ couldn't even get any words out. Suddenly he was there and she felt her heart pound, felt her breath catch, and she was swept up, up in strong and familiar arms. Her legs and arms wrapped around him, hands tangled in his hair, and she sobbed.

It was the response Peter should have gotten upon Mary Jane finding out he wasn't really dead----but apparently, she was from months in the future. Yes, she was dumped in a strange place, but something must have been really wrong in the timeline she came from.

	For a long time, they just stood there. Peter had thought he would never see her again, and here she was. The people passing paid them no mind; they generally paid little mind to anyone, unless they were bothered. It was easy for him to hold her---and yeah, he was crying. He was. Finally, he calmed enough to say, "Come on. Come with me, we'll go to my room." (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

All Mary Jane could think was, thank God he was plucked out of the world before the last few months happened. Before he got all entangled with Tony Stark, before he revealed his identity to the public, before Aunt May got shot, before Mephisto. And thank God she was plucked out of her world before her life was shattered. Before she gave up her life and her marriage to save Aunt May's life because Peter wouldn't have been able to handle the guilt. So unable, in fact, that he'd be willing to leave her. She wasn't sure how she felt about that.

MJ squeezed his hand. "Lead on, tiger."

They may have been trapped here, but if they really were, it was better than the reality they were facing on Earth.

Peter showed her where they were supposed to live, pointing out the other buildings, just in case. He was still in a sort of shock, fresh from his brutal death at Morlun's hands. As much as he didn't want MJ messed up in all this, he had to admit it was better than doing this alone.

He was shell shocked, but he felt so alive. So aware of everything. Colors seemed brighter, MJ seemed warmer, everything smelled better. As soon as they were inside, Peter pulled MJ to him for a long, hard kiss.

MJ sucked in a breath, the kiss violent and desperate. She almost lost him forever, almost gave him up. Stupid. What a stupid idea. She could never give him up. She'd fight to the death for him. She'd never give him up. Even if Mephisto had her way she'd find her way back to him. She didn't know where they were, but they'd get through if they were together. So far, they were safer here than they were on Earth. Caged like animals in a zoo? So what.

"I have fought too hard and put up with too much to lose you, you understand me?" She slapped him across the cheek. "Don't make me do that again."

	It didn't hurt too much, but it certainly stunned him. What the hell? "Do what? I didn't mean to die, I'm sorry---" Yeah, he didn't understand. He didn't remember something he hadn't even done yet! Mary Jane just watched him. She liked the fact he didn't know. Her fingertips ran over the place where she'd slapped him, a silent apology. There were so many things she wanted to tell him, but she'd hold off. "Don't do that, either," she whispered. She kissed his cheek. "We can stay here. How about that? We'll make the most of what's here, we'll start a life together here."

She had friends, yes. Friends and a career and a life of her own, but she'd rather be here than in the situation he'd put her in on Earth. She could escape here. Maybe they'd never have to face problems again----but given the existence of a person like this Alpha guy, maybe that was a premature assumption.

Peter touched her hair, cradling the back of her neck in his hands. It sounded great. Getting away from everything, never having to deal with all that again. But nothing ever worked out that way in Peter's life, or in MJ's. It was a lot to expect.

"We have to go back," he breathed. "If the chance comes up. We don't belong here." Everyone is back home. Aunt May, Tony, the rest of the New Avengers. Peter had responsibilities there. Besides, this alternate reality thing never worked out. Ever. "We have to go home."

"What if the chance doesn't come up? Maybe we could belong here. Maybe... in order to stay together, this is where fate put us, Pete." Maybe Aunt May was dead thanks to MJ's sudden disappearance. Did the rest of the world go on without them? She wasn't going to tell Peter about Aunt May. He didn't need to know that. He'd ... try too hard to get home.

Did that make her heartless?

"Fate or a psychopath." The latter was usually the case, really. "If it doesn't come up, it doesn't come up." Peter shifted uncomfortably as he said it. He was homesick already. He hadn't gone through what MJ had yet, had no idea that he would reveal his identity, become a fugitive and someday mourn the death of Captain America. The Civil War was nothing but fiction to him now, and maybe it was best that was the way he stayed.

MJ seemed... clingy. Clearly, something was wrong in her timeline. Something that might have taken Peter from her. She couldn't stop touching him, pulling him toward her like she needed to ascertain that he was hers. Despite her body language, her voice was flippant and confident. The vulnerability switch was shut off and the carefree party girl was back. Typical Mary Jane. "I get to stay here, right? And please tell me I'll end up with more than a hundred dollars, or there's some work for me to get. I can't function without anything."

"You know what, tiger? I don't want to talk about it." But then MJ proceeded to talk about it. "Except that Tony decided to push the registration issue, the whole superhero community divided up, you decided to be the poster boy for registration, you unmasked on national television, half the community hated you----including Matt, you know----and then Steve was killed and someone going after you got Aunt May with a bullet in the chest. You decided to bust her out of the hospital, you got a rap sheet of charges that you couldn't pin on Spidey because now you've gone public, you can't get out of your corner, Aunt May's dying, and if that's not bad enough? Mephisto decides it's a great time to come in and say that in order to save her life, you have to give me up. Our marriage, everything. Everything we had together."

It all just came spilling out. She didn't want to tell him, but here she was. "And you know what? That's what you wanted. To give me up to save her, because you couldn't deal with the guilt. And you wanted me to make that decision with you so you didn't feel so bad about it, so it'd be okay. The last thing I remember is going to him ... and ... and now I've told you and now..." MJ wrapped her arms around herself. "Now you're going to think about May and where she might be and if she's all right and you're going to do your damnedest to get out of here as fast as you can to save her." And MJ be damned. "And I thought that if I didn't tell you, then... then we'd stay here, and we'd stay... that I'd keep you, that I could have you----"

It would be an injustice not to say that Peter Parker was an emotional person. This all came as a total shock to him. He listened pretty patiently until MJ got to 'and then Steve was killed" and "you got Aunt May with a bullet in the chest". It was worse than anything Peter would have come up with on his own.

By the end, Peter was standing there with a hand in front of his mouth. He thought he might throw up and it was clear he was on the verge of tears. Steve dead, Aunt May dying, making a deal with Mephisto.

Eventually, he had to hold a hand up to stop her. "All right, all right, all right. I need... you know, I'm gonna sit down."

"Except to me, you have done it. And you're doing it again." MJ pinched the bridge of her nose. "No, okay, look, you're right." Compared to the superhero she felt so damn selfish. It wasn't that she wanted May to die. She loved May. Really. But May was old, and while MJ was going to give up everything to keep Peter sane and happy and save Aunt May, it didn't mean she was okay with the decision a second time.

"Well, to me, I haven't! I just died!" He was traumatized already as it was. "I thought I would never see you again, and then on my way back home, I disappear, and now I'm being told that I get my aunt killed. You're here, and you're alive, and I don't know where Aunt May is or what's happening to her. I don't remember saying that I'm going to try and call Mephisto and see if we can work something out, all right?" Peter covered his face with his hands.

	MJ wandered over to Peter to sink down and curl up with him. No use fighting. She wrapped her arms around him and rested her head on his shoulder. No more talking, no more arguing. She just wanted to hold him. (Reply to this) (Parent)
