WHO: Echo & Claire Saunders
WHAT: Echo's feeling more than a little afraid and paranoid. Worst fears realised.
WHEN: Late evening
WHERE: Echo's place
RATING: TBA
STATUS: In progress

There was so much to do and frankly she was glad of the time that she could spend, just being herself and not whichever doll was needed today. She'd been careful about what she'd said and how she'd acted, though having Boyd know the truth frankly made it a little easier. Alpha and Mr Dominic didn't; the latter may not try to kill her himself, especially so openly but Alpha could never be predicted. And he'd learned that she couldn't either. To take her mind off the fact, Echo has taken the day out of the apartment; having a walk in the park, going for a swim... It had helped too, but so did knowing that those around her would see to it that Echo was protected. Sometimes being special had it's perks.

The day of activity, however slow and relaxing was still tiring and when Echo returned to the apartment she could think of nothing better than continuing the relaxing; and maybe sleeping. That would have to come later though. Stepping into the apartment Echo froze, terrified in her steps, afraid of even breathing. This... this couldn't be happening. How?

"I think you know. You pretend to be do special but really, you're just the same." Echo gasped, turning her head and then turning herself around on the spot. Not a lot terrified Echo; with thirty eight different experiences and memories it was hard to but...

"You want our protection but Echo, really?" She squinted her eyes shut, trying to block out the faces, the sight, hoping that that in turn would take away the sound. Her hope failed, an eerie chill running down her spine.

"I didn't do this, I wouldn't." She kept repeating it to herself, hoping that the thought could help banish... It was too much though, the blood, the pain... All too much.

"You like to pretend. But you're just like him."

Echo dropped herself down to the floor, hugging her knees up to her chest and keeping her eyes shut. She barely noticed the free falling tears, her brain now taking on a mind if it's own. She was Echo, she wouldn't... What if Alpha was right? And Mr Dominic? What if she were just like him?

Claire had been in Colligo for what seemed like eons now, and whenever weird shit started happening she defaulted to a response of "lock yourself up in your room and monitor the situation from afar". She wasn't really sure what was going on - people were complaining about headaches and not getting sleep and their dead relatives - but she was sure it was something she didn't want to be involved in. She was just glad she could stay in her cozy, quiet apartment away from the fray outside, away from Alpha, away from people she didn't want to trust but had to anyway like Adelle and Dominic.

She just wished Echo was here.

She didn't like it when she wandered. It made her worry, like an especially overprotective mother. Claire knew Echo wasn't a child, and certainly wasn't her child, but she couldn't help it. When she was wandering the city, especially when everyone was having nervous breakdowns, a constant worry buzzed through her mind.

So when Echo came home, she was relieved.

When she sat down on the floor and started crying, she was terrified.

"Echo?" She asked, hurrying over to her so she could kneel next to her. She hugged her instinctively. "Echo, calm down." She said, her voice quavering as it was apt to when she was overcome. Which, with her, was most of the time.

Echo wasn't sure how long it had been. She felt cold, and very scared. She felt the touch from Doctor Saunders but barely registered her voice, flinching at the touch. Any sound from Claire that managed to register wasn't comforting, not with Mr Dominic's and Alpha's voices booming louder. She pressed her hands to her ears, trying to block out the shouts, however failing to do so.

"They won't stop. I didn't-"

"Still lying Echo? Is that the best that you can do?"

"I am my best. I am always my best."

"Yes, you are. You killed them, you turned against them."

"No, I-"

By this point in time, Claire had worked herself into something of a panic, which she knew wouldn't really help the situation at all but she was prone to it. She knew something was wrong with Echo, she could see that clearly, but she didn't know how to fix it.

"I am my best. I am always my best" Echo said to somebody else who wasn't there, and it sort of pulled Claire back to reality. In the past few weeks she had almost stopped thinking of Echo as an active. But that's what she was, an active.

"You are your best." Claire affirmed, considering maybe leaving to go find Boyd - he could calm her down. But she didn't want to leave Echo alone, either.

Hearing Claire reaffirm what she'd said to them made her look at her, giving her a strange look in a rather now disbelief. Echo shook her head, fear becoming more panicked, eyes darting around the room.

"They, they think I did this. They said that I-"

"She can't help you. You'll just betray her."

"I wouldn't do anything."

"I know you wouldn't." Claire murmured in reply, running her fingers through her hair absently. "Who tells you, Echo?" She asked, her eyes following the panicked woman's gaze. Her head was spinning. She wasn't good in crisis that didn't involve blood and gore.

Echo let herself be comforted by Claire, or let Claire try to comfort her; she couldn't tell what was right. She wanted to calm, to ignore them but they were too strong, and she was so weak, so frightened. "They... they're strong. They think that I caused the pain."
