Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
WHO: Dawn & Miguel.
WHAT: Bowling date!
WHEN: Around noon.
WHERE: The bowling alley inside the mall.
RATING: TBD.
STATUS: Incomplete.

It wasn't that Dawn liked going against people's wishes or making them feel concerned about her well-being. She really thought Miguel was just a nice guy, and she wanted to get to know him better. Plus, it was pretty much a crime to not know what it's like to go bowling, and Dawn wanted to be the one to fix that. Nevermind that he was absolutely gorgeous, that was just a perk, really.

Knowing she would have to go through a long, trying song and dance if she asked for a ride, Dawn decided to walk it to the mall. It wasn't that far, and it was a nice day, so it didn't bother her. Plus, it gave her some extra time to be alone and think about how she was not going to screw this up. She had a horrible track record when it came to guys, which...was probably why so many people were frowning upon this in the first place.

She reached the entrance to the mall at about ten to twelve, and she was standing in front of the bowling alley five minutes later. She contemplated heading inside to get a lane set up for them, but figured she wanted to wait around out front to make it easier for him to find her.

Miguel had a bit of a pep in his step as he headed to the mall. He didn't have a car yet, and would have to save up to buy one. Sure, he'd prefer to just web swing everywhere, but he'd have to costume-up to do it. And yes, he did wear the costume under the clothes - an old superhero trick from the Heroic Age - but it still left too much risk of exposure. So that meant a lot of saving. He'd noticed a convenience store in need of a clerk. It wasn't exactly the most rewarding work, but it left his nights free to be Spider-Man, and he didn't really want to get back into genetics given the...fairly primitive equipment and processes.

But those were concerns for another time. He had a date. If the little pictures were any indication, she was quite the looker. He was thrilled to see that his bad luck had not, in fact, followed him here. He'd dressed fairly casually, in standard jeans, a t-shirt, and a light jacket, and put on shades to hide his glowing eyes. That was the only issue. He figured he could pass it off as a protein deficiency in the cells of his eyes that left them somewhat vulnerable to sunlight. As long as she didn't actually ask to look at them, there would be no problem at all.

He'd kept his PDA open to the thread from the previous night so that he could check the little pictures when he got to the mall. Sure enough, he spotted her long before she could spot him - telescopic vision had its benefits - and when he got within range for a normal human to spot her, he smiled and waved, dropping the PDA back into his pocket and picking up the pace until he reached her. "Hey," he greeted her, smiling. "Dawn?" Yes, she looked like the little pictures, but when there were four other guys with his face, he wanted to be sure he had the right person.

Dawn tried to force herself to just smile and wave politely back, but she ended up grinning like a moron and nearly tripping over her own two feet as she stepped forward a little to meet him halfway, nevermind the fact that she was already standing right in front of the place. She couldn't help it, though. He looked even better in person, and she had always been a little awkward, socially and otherwise. It didn't exactly help that he was older than she was, and that so many people had been badgering her about not doing this, too, but she was desperate to push all of that aside and enjoy a real, honest-to-goodness date for once.

"Yeah, hi," she greeted, laughing a little out of pure anxiety. "I, ah...thanks for coming." It probably sounded stupid, but she really wasn't sure if he was going to show up if he managed to catch sight of the comments on her post. "So, this is it. The bowling alley. Pins, gutter balls, smelly rental shoes in all of their smelly goodness."

"No problem." He was a little confused as to why she had been worried about whether he was going to show up. Maybe she had friends here that weren't thrilled? Or perhaps he had competition that he should be worried about? Whatever. He'd check the network later. Right now, he had a date to focus on.

"Smelly rental shoes?" His eyebrows rose and he couldn't help but smirk. "I thought bowling was supposed to be a good thing, but smelly rental shoes... Not exactly a great image, y'know?" He was mostly joking. Mostly, because if they were really smelly that would be unpleasant. Not for the first time, he was thankful he didn't have an enhanced sense of smell.

"Right, and that is exactly why I don't go near them," she replied with a laugh, nodding towards the doors so that they could head inside. "I don't really know what the point of renting shoes is, but I never got kicked out for wearing my own sneakers."

She led the way over towards the lanes, finding an open one rather easily. It was early in the day, and most people tended to gather at the alley later on towards the evening. Once she set up a game on the little computer set up off to the side, she turned back to Miguel with a grin. "So, you wanna go first? I need to see what I'm dealing with so I know how much fixing up you need."
