WHO: Noah Gray & Emma deLauro
WHAT: Roller Disco~
WHEN: During the Lasertag Event
WHERE: A Roller Rink in the City
RATING: PG
STATUS: In Progress

With so many people busy elsewhere, Building A was rather sparsely occupied when Emma slipped into the lobby and over the apartment that Noah shared with his grandmother. So studied the nameplates next to the door for a moment before moving and knocking on the door, turning and leaning up against the wall next to it as her mind reached out idly, locating the two people inside the room. One was an older mind, tempered by age and hardships, with a clear cocoon of regret wrapped around her consciousness. It was interesting, almost intriguing, how everyone in Noah's family that she had encountered so far seemed to be plagued with regrets for something or another.

She could only hope that that wasn't a tradition that would extend any farther.

Turning back towards the door, Emma raised her hand and knocked again. She just hoped that he hadn't lost his nerve.

Noah was nervous, but he certainly hadn't lost his nerve. He had, however, spent the past few hours pacing across the length of the majority of the apartment until he thought he might walk a hole in the carpet. He'd also checked, double-checked, then triple-checked the outfit he was wearing, the way his hair looked, and whether or not he still had his cash in his pocket. He was just about to do all three for a fourth time, too, when the knock sounded at the door.

Freezing in his tracks, Noah's first reaction was mild surprise that Emma had actually showed up and hadn't simply been humoring him. His next reaction, following immediately on the heels of the first, was dawning horror that he more than likely was going to fall while on roller skates and make a monumental fool out of himself.

He might have had a third reaction - somewhere between giddiness at the thought of spending the afternoon with Emma and yet more nervousness that he would somehow screw it up - but he was too busy trying to convince his legs to carry him to the door so he could actually open it. They listened, after a few seconds, and before he knew it his hand was wrapped around the doorknob and he was smiling at the girl standing on the other side.

The anxiety was washing off of him in waves but all Emma did was smile right back at him, not giving away any signs that she knew exactly what he was dealing with. There was no reason to poke at the issue, after all.

"You ready?" Emma asked, his smile widening as she offered her hand out to him. "We might as well start earlier since I've got the feeling that I might be holding your hand a lot tonight," She said with a playful wink as she peeked over his shoulder back into the apartment and waved to the older woman that had stepped into the living area, arms crossed over her chest and a slight grin tugging her her lips. "I promise I'll bring him back in one piece and not too badly bruised."

When Emma offered her hand, Noah was a bit shocked. At her reasoning, however, his shock turned into faint embarrassment even as he placed his hand in hers and made his way out the door. The embarrassment was manageable, he decided, if it meant getting to hold her hand for the entirety of the night.

That is, until she spoke to Angela. While he wasn't sure if it was what she said or something else entirely, but his embarrassment spiked to an almost unbearable level before he reminded himself that she could sense everything he was feeling. At that realization, Noah did his best to get his emotions back under control. He didn't manage entirely but by the time they'd exited the building he did have enough of a grip over himself that he felt it was safe to try to speak again.

"I have to admit, I've never been to a roller disco before," he admitted. There was humor in his voice but also a low rumble of embarrassment that he couldn't squash no matter how much he might want to.

Glancing sideways at her, he added with his typical small grin that lit up his eyes far more than his face, "Though I'm going to do my best to spend more time on my feet than on the ground." He paused for a second before adding, almost shyly, "And... you look nice."

Actually, as far as he was concerned, she looked fantastic, but there wasn't a force on this planet or Earth that could make him admit that out loud.

He didn't have to admit it out loud. As much as Emma really wasn't fond of being able to pick up people's every feeling when she was close to them, it wasn't something that she could really help. But she wasn't going to voice it. Instead, she just squeezed his hand to reassure him that there was absolutely no reason for him to be embarrassed or shy. All right. Maybe a little embarrassed. She pretty much had waved to his grandmother in order to tease him.

"I certainly hope that you accomplish that goal," Emma said, grinning sideways as she winked at him. "It'll make things a lot easier on you tomorrow," She said playfully before her smiled softened at his last words. He really was a sweetheart. "I'm not the only one that looks good," She said, reaching out and gently flattening her hand over the front of his shirt.

Noah was sure, if he made it through this night without his skin permanently flushed it was going to be a miracle. He'd been in Emma's company a whole couple of minutes and he hadn't stopped yet. Not that he minded. It felt... normal, somehow. But it also flustered him a bit. Any other circumstance and he was calm and collected and had a general idea what to do, say, and think. Whenever he was around her, all of that seemed to just stop.

"Thanks," he did manage to reply, his voice a low rumble more than actually enunciating the word. He had to get a grip over himself. Had to. Otherwise this was going to make for one of the most awkward outings ever.

Clearing his throat, he asked curiously - and in a tone much more like his typical one, "So... what does a roller disco entail, anyway?" He had a vague idea, but still wasn't positive. And at least this conversation wouldn't lead to more embarrassing comments or actions on his part.

Well, he could always hope, at least.
