As nice as it was to be young again, if anyone ever wipes out my memory of my son and husband again, I'm going to track them down and throttle them.

And this place really does have the most brilliant timing, doesn't it, my husband? You finally manage to show up, and I can't remember you at all. By the by, it took you long enough to get here. I certainly hope I'm not going to have to sit around and wait another month now that I do remember.

Spock, dear, it's so odd to see you so young again are you and Nyota getting along well?

... Mother? Now you're older and likely expect me to be older as well.

I HATE this pla Yes. Nyota and I are getting along as well as can be expected. Except she is so very... human.

It's me, love. I know I look a little different than you're used to, but it's still me.

As can be expected? Have there been difficulties?

I had deduced as much. You do not look all that different than you appear in my own time.

Yes. No. Not as such, no. I am simply... unaccustomed to interaction with humans my own age. I feel guilty when she is upset and I am not even responsible the majority of the ti

Then I suppose I'm lucky to have aged so well.

[Spock]
They are not incredibly different, dear. Far less consistent than Vulcan children, but they do ride their emotions far more freely.

I would have to disagree, Mother. She becomes aggitated without provocation and when it is wholly unnecessary. She has cried then apologized for doing so and while she is clearly intelligent she often takes insult when I merely point out a flaw in her thought process.

I... I have never met someone who frustrates and fascinates me at the same time as she is wont to do.

Such is typical for a human female, Spock. Especially one of her age. And considering you do sometimes take insult when your father points out flaws in yours They are far more sensitive to the situations around them, and as it goes, the more intelligent that they are, the more that criticism that can seem to take the form of an insult (as Vulcan criticism with its stanch and unvarnished delivery often does) can injure.

Well, that certainly sounds familiar. This is not all together surprising, my son.

I would think that her intelligence would alert her to the fact that clearly I am not intending to be insulting.

It is certainly surprising to me. On Vulcan I either am frustrated by others or I am fascinated by them. It does not seem logical to have such opposite reactions to a person.

You would think, wouldn't you? Unfortunately, my dear, that would be rational, and little girls are usually anything but.

Perhaps not. But not everything in life is logical.

I really haven't had a chance to talk to him. Avoiding him lik But George says he's managing. Which considering all he's going through, I count that as a good thing.

At least you took the lack of knowledge with grace? I doubt anyone else could have handled it any better.

Still, it's good to have you back.

There was little reason to get upset. Everyone was confused on some level, and it was hardly as though the news that I had received was bad to any degree.

[George]
How is Jim?

True. It could have always been much worse.

[Amanda]
He's a fifteen year old boy who rejects authority and is angry at the entire galaxy as a whole and his family especially.

I let him drive my car. I think that might have helped a little.

Well, I suppose we can always hope that the time here may allow him some eventual sense of normality that he never got before. He's hardly alone.

I hope so but I'm not holding out much hope. He refuses to have much to do with Winona. I can't say I blame him, really - it isn't fair to her, but the pain of what she'll eventually do to him is still a very fresh pain for him, I think.

If anything, I'm just grateful that bastard Frank disappeared before all of this happened.

Of course. It couldn't have happened very long ago for him. But still... He has more family here than he has ever truly had before. There are a great potential number of people for him to get along with. And there is no one looking to punish him for simply being himself.

If anything, that should lend to at least a little more stability.

We can always hope.

I keep hoping he'll realize that fact. He's smart, damn smart, but sometimes the smart ones are the ones who aren't very bright when it comes to things like this.

I hope so.

I'm glad to see your husband showed up, by the way.

And yes, I know. That statement is illogical as neither you nor anyone else have any control over when or whether they arrive, but still.
