When your characters wake up in the morning, things in Colligo are going to be a little different. And all characters will be waking up, even if they normally don't sleep. That'll probably even be the first clue for some people. They won't necessarily be in their regular flat and they definitely won't be alone. You can, of course, start posting now as if it's morning. We don't expect you to be quiet all night.
Your characters will wake up in the morning with no memory of the night before, in bed with another person. Even characters who don't normally sleep will wake up under the same set of circumstances. There will be another person with them and, for all intents and purposes, the pair have been hitched, Vegas style. All the apartments, save for those with children or minors are now one bedroom. For couples who are now "parents", there will be a second bedroom for their child.
This isn't going to affect characters mentally. They won't necessarily love, or feel anything in particular, toward their new spouse. They're simply stuck together. Their wedding rings, which don't come off, keep them from separating too far, except to go to work, and there are requirements for this "marriage".
The rules and guidelines for this change can be found below:
⇒ Every character will be wearing a gold wedding band. If they are already married and have a wedding ring of their own, it has been replaced for this plot. It will come back when all is said and done. But for now, it's gone. The new band will not come off. You can't wish it off, will it off, cut off your finger to get it off, phase through it, or teleport away from it. You're stuck with it.
⇒ Excepting work, characters are not allowed to separate from their new spouse. If they move more than fifty feet apart they will feel an intense sensation of pain that will get worse the longer they're apart and the farther they are apart. Even those who would not normally experience pain will do so, and it will be scaled to the pain tolerance of the individual. Both characters will feel this pain until they move closer together.
⇒ Characters are required to share meals with their spouse and sleep with them. This just means sleeping, but they do have to share a bed. Those characters that normally wouldn't eat or sleep will do so for this plot. Children must be present for meals, though they will sleep in a separate room, obviously. If characters attempt to eat meals apart (purposefully going to separate rooms, for example) from their spouse they will not be able to and they will feel sick. If they try to sleep apart (one in the bedroom, one on the sofa or on the bedroom floor), they will suffer from intense insomnia until they sleep together. If they persist, they will feel pain similar to when they separate.
⇒ Couples will share a joint account, where their funds will be merged. This will sort itself out after the marriage is done, but for the duration of the plot, their funds are shared between them. This doesn't mean you can steal your spouse's money if you don't like them (that's covered under the section on spousal abuse).
⇒ NO CHEATING! Even if your character has a real spouse/significant other/lovemuffin in Colligo, they cannot be physically affectionate or intimate with them as this would be cheating on their spouse. If they attempt to, they will be...unable to perform, to put it nicely. They will also feel pain, though in this instance their assigned spouse would not as they are not the one cheating. They will also be affected with...performance issues, you might say.
⇒ NO SPOUSAL ABUSE! Even if your character absolutely despises their spouse, they are not allowed to be physically violent with them. There will be harsh punishments for this. Seriously, folks. No attacking your spouses. This includes financially harming your spouse, so you can't empty the bank account to screw them over. The punishments for breaking rules will be decided by the mods and tailored to the situation.
