Hey guys!
As we said before, we do have another plot starting very soon. Unlike many plots in the game, which are the work of Asaph or a temporary villain he has brought to the city, this plot is more of a character-driven plot. As such, this plot will work a little differently than past plots and we hope that you will enjoy the opportunity.
Scarecrow will be releasing his Fear Toxin around the city, starting Friday night at midnight. For those of you unfamiliar with DC comics or the Batman movies, Crane's Fear Toxin is an LSD-based hallucinogenic compound that causes paranoia and panicked states while also causing people to hallucinate, primarily regarding things that they fear. In larger doses, it can cause more serious overdose symptoms and even death. Behind the cut below, you'll find more information, as well as guidelines regarding the plot.
- As stated before, the Fear Toxin causes paranoia, panicked states, violent hallucinations (relating to their fears) and a distorted perception of reality. Others symptoms include increased heart rate, rapid breathing, and inability to focus. People may even cause themselves serious injury from panicking or reacting to their fears.
- Overdose symptoms include high blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, fever, blurred vision, dizziness, seizures, stroke, heart attack, or even death.
- As always, with these plots, you are welcome to kill off your characters, either through overdose or through other circumstances (i.e. - someone panicking and accidentally killing someone else, or someone thinking they’re covered in bees and running screaming out a fifth story window), but keep in mind that characters who die will not come back until the plot is over. And we are not sure when this plot will end as we'll be playing it by ear, so please do not ask when the plot will end.
- Obviously, if you are going to have another character kill yours, you do need to run this by the player of that character. Also, please keep in mind that deaths do affect other characters beyond your own, so please be kind enough to give players of characters associated with yours a heads up if you do plan on killing them. Communication is very important in situations like this.
- Some characters will not be affected by the Fear Toxins. For example, characters with abilities that let them heal rapidly or give them an immunity to toxins would not be affected. Similarly, non-human characters who aren't affected in the same way as humans would be immune to the Fear Toxin. Children, infants and pregnant characters will not be affected, because Adam Young will be deciding this with his fun reality warping power of deciding things once the plot kicks off. If you feel your character would not be affected for one reason or another, please feel free to have them be immune, but keep it realistic. Veronica Mars is awesome and snarky, but there is nothing about her that would make her immune to Fear Toxin.
- If your character does not have an immunity but you do not want a particular one being affected, it is fine to say that they weren't around areas where the Toxin was set off. We're in no way forcing all characters to be affected.
- There is currently no antidote in the city to the Fear Toxin, but there is nothing saying that the scientific minds in the city could not come up with something. We have a lot of very intelligent characters in this game. Again though, keep in mind that things need to be realistic. Do not have scientists posting two days in that they've worked something out.
- We encourage you to take this opportunity to have characters interact with people who they might not talk to otherwise. Whether this is because two people are both immune and run into each other in the chaos, or unlikely groups work together to try to stop things, just try to take advantage of the chance to interact with new people.
As always, have fun with this plot. While it is a darker plot than some of the others, we hope that it'll give characters something different and interesting to interact to and that you as players will enjoy it. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us, either through email, IM, or through the Mod Contact post.
