The jump was notable, but it was ever so slight. He hadn't meant to scare her, even a little bit but at least neither of them had been hurt this time. He held out the picture to her and made a laughing sound in his throat at her comment of a ninja. As he didn't like laughing because he remembers his brother, before he had tact, saying that Josh sounded like a guffawing horse when he did and Josh was easily embarrassed by things like that. He figured if he could hear his own voice, he might actually be able to do it to where it wasn't annoying.
He saw where her eyes had landed, and he could see there was something like annoyance on her face, kinda dumbfounded like she possibly couldn't believe he had the nerve to look. He swallowed, as he hadn't meant to piss her off yet again. She just hoped she took the picture and didn't sock him one good. As she came close, and snatched the picture from his hand, he stepped back as if burned and pursed his lips. He should really go. He needed to go.
When she looked at him again, her face was more relaxed and less angry. He wasn't sure how to proceed and tell her he wanted to leave. He figured making a hasty exit would seem rude, but at the same time she obviously didn't want him here. When she showed up the photo willingly however, he looked again and her movements spoke the truth. He nodded his head, giving a strained smile that didn't exactly reach his eyes but it was obvious from the photo that she had lived a troubled life.
He just stood there unable to move, afraid to make movement as she was going through something and as much as he wanted to help, he didn't know what to do exactly. She was if he wanted a drink? Maybe she wanted him to stick around after all. He took a deep breath and nodded his answer, even though she turned before she could see it. Taking a few steps forward to sit on the edge of the bed and wait for whatever she would give him. His mother filtered through his mind and he took out his cellphone from his pocket and texted her quickly. Are you okay? Not drinking too much are you?, keeping it in his hand afterward.
