He was staring at Joe's number on his phone, that had long since been disconnected, as if now his baby brother was a ghost and could never be reached. He sighed lowly, and closed his eyes for a moment as he pinched the bridge of his nose. He realized his mistake too late and winced. That had hurt. Maybe he'd find him someday, but meanwhile, he hoped he was leading a good life and a life he wanted if he was going to stay away from his family for this long. Josh couldn't help thinking there was a reason he never came home, a reason that was terrible and bad, a reason that made him think he couldn't come home. He pushed it out of his mind and moved out of his contacts.
He felt a presence at his side and then the bed dipped, his stomach tightened for a moment, as if he were getting butterflies like some thirteen year old. He ignored it in favor of looking over at Izzy, and watching her face but then he realized she was signing and watched her hands instead. He shrugged his shoulders, looking down for a moment. Then signed back. Just writing my mother. he answered. Do you want me to leave? He didn't minds staying in her company, if that's what she wanted but he didn't want to impose any longer.
