Halloween Safety - by Charity Burbage In the current climate, safety is on everyone's mind. With Halloween coming up, this issue is particularly fraught. The Healers of St. Mungo's say that Halloween is one of their most busy nights, with frequent injuries and many cases of reckless behaviour. Once known as Mischief Night, the holiday has always been known for tricks as well as treats. "I've had more cases than I care to remember of young people getting into bad situations," says Healer Miriam Strout, "I remember last year there was a young man who thought it would be an excellent idea to go out seeking dragons in Wales." The popularity of fancy dress parties and the imbibing of copious amounts of alcohol make these events seem unsurprising and even commonplace, but it is important to keep in mind that we live in a perilous time. The temptation to act heedlessly is great during popular social occasions, but should be curbed as much as possible in the current time. After the disappearance of Healer Hestia Jones, it is clear that danger is far from over. Witches and wizards should show particular vigilance, check their safety wards daily and remember that there are safety in numbers. |
