Nessie heard the movement of someone coming, and could smell them before they actually came into vision. She tilted her head in the direction the woman came from the exact second she came into view. Her face remained calm, completely calm and un-phased by people. Uncle Emmett had always said she should avoid strangers, because some of them were bad people, though he had used more colorful words, which had made Rosalie smack him. Then again, everyone told her she should avoid strangers. From her appearance and smell, the woman was human. Nessie should be able to defend herself, or at least get away if had to. She was faster than any human. But she seemed nice enough, no point in running, where would she run to?
People expected her to act a certain way, she only looked about seven after all, they'd expect her act like the kid she looked like. She rarely did. Nessie was the best behaved seven year old around, but that was when her parents were here. Should she be putting on a show for this woman.
When the woman approached, she took a small step back, and her face puckered, giving the impression of a terrified little girl. She was scared, but she had to play it up. Think like a normal seven year old girl, totally unaware that the woman could tell she wasn't just like any normal seven year old.
When her parents found out that Jake had lost her, they were going to rip his head off. That would be bad, she'd miss him way too much if they did that. They probably wouldn't really rip his head off, but he'd probably be in for a lot of pain, there would be a lot of angry vampires after him. "Daddy says not to talk to strangers." her inhumanly beautiful face turning up to look at the girl, musical voice soft, laced with an almost true fear.
One hand reached up to tug on her curly copper hair, looking up and down the street. "...but there's no one else." so obviously she wasn't going to have anyone else to talk to unless she did talk to strangers. "You're not a pedophile, are you?" she asked suspiciously. "I don't know what that means, but Uncle Emmett says they're bad, and I should avoid them." Emmett was usually right about this sort of thing, and so she'd take what he said seriously.
