WHO: Rogue and Gambit WHAT: Checking out the new surroundings. WHEN: Evening WHERE: The center of the city. RATING: PG (if that) STATUS: In Progress
Logically, Rogue knew that being out, alone, in strange place after dark was probably one of the dumbest things she could do. However, up until nearly half an hour ago, she'd also known logically that she couldn't go from the mansion in New York to Switzerland in an alternate reality in the blink of an eye, too. So now that she'd been proven wrong on that front, she really wasn't putting much faith in logic at the moment.
Instead, she was exploring.
She hadn't gone past the center most part of New Hope, though. She'd stayed in the area where she'd found herself after she'd left the waiting room, simply wandering the streets and glancing around at the empty stores and vacant sidewalks. There was, as far as she could tell, quite literally no one else around.
Needless to say, that worried her a bit. What if these scientists were wrong? What if that weapon of theirs didn't bring others here but just her? It was a frightening thought, to say the least, and not one that the young woman wanted to dwell on. Yet the longer she went without hearing another voice, or footsteps on the ground, or a car, or... well... anything, really, the more she couldn't help but wonder if her fears were being realized.
"Hello?" she called out yet again, her voice sounding particularly loud in the deafening silence that surrounded her. Arms wrapped tightly around herself, Rogue made note of an accessories store as she passed by. It would likely be her best bet for finding gloves when and if the ones she wore now became too frayed.
A shake of her head to re-focus on the actual issue rather than an irrational, minuscule worry like lack of gloves, she continued to make her way down the street. "Hello? Is anybody out there?" Her slight Southern accent was becoming more pronounced as her anxiety grew. With a sharp exhale of air that caused a few of the white streaked pieces of her hair to blow away from her face, she cleared her throat and tried again.
"Can anybody hear me at all? Anyone?"
This time, Rogue didn't expect a reply and didn't really wait to see if one came. Instead she kept right on walking, her steps slow and her thoughts filled with fear and worry. If someone didn't show up soon, she thought as she crossed the street and continued on her way, she wasn't sure how long she'd be able to last.
