Nix didn't wake in the morning because she hadn't slept since first arriving. It was a routine she was used to, it went 'don't eat, don't sleep, rinse and repeat'. She'd spent the first few days re-arranging her apartment which included putting various things upside down and converting the fridge to a place that Bertil could hide. There was water all over her floor which she'd haphazardly throw a towel over - she'd forgotten fridges had ice in them, it had been that long since she'd used one and by long time she meant she'd never used them. When she was done with that she'd laid in bed and tried to close her eyes but every time she did she got the Blonde again and flashes of places and faces that meant nothing to her. None of her visions had anything to do with her sisters and she was starting to worry that it meant they had ceased to exist. What was she without her coven? She operated above them all the time but she operated within them too. Without them who was she? What about the ascension?
She'd spent the night perched on the top of a street light and as the light had started to turn on (no visible rising sun) she hopped down and made her way to the edge of the city. She crossed over roads, hopped over and along the roofs of buildings and stopped when she couldn't see any more earth. Her ears twitched as she sniffed the air. Still smelt fake. She tried to peer over but it was light someone was holding her shoulders back. Picking up a rock she threw it but all it did was bounce back. She chose a smaller one which did the same. She kicked it. It rejected her foot.
Marching back over to the road she eyed up the street light. Maybe if she got to the top of it? Scrambling up she perched on the light casing and tried to look over that way but there was nothing to see. It was just blank like a white piece of paper made of cloud.
"Light bulb moment!" she sang climbing part way down the pole and then ripping off the light from the top. It was firm and weighted in her hands as she twirled down the rest of the way. Walking back towards the edge she measured five steps back and then raised her arms above her head. "Eureka!" she cried.
