At the Winters residence...
Around the same time as this.
"What, you don't like it?" Juliet sneered toward the woman seated at the other end of the table. "I thought you loved the glitz and sparkles, Mother. Or is it only when it's on you, and getting everyone's attention?" The sneer dripped with sugary sweetness that could cause hyperglycaemia in those so inclined.
The expected sniff sounded down the room, fine china cup lifted by manicured talons sporting enormous rings. "That is no way to speak to your Mother." The elegant voice drifted down the table. As gentle as a soft summer breeze but carrying a razor's edge beneath that guileless tone that was aimed carefully to inflict maximum damage. Only the most experienced ears could detect the hint of tension beneath, the signal that again Juliet had hit the target fair square in the middle of its evil, red bullseye.
Having achieved that small triumph Juliet sauntered from the room, passing Bart as he entered the room to collect any used dishes. She gave him a wink and wide smile, telling him she would be up on the roof if anyone called.
Since Izzy had found the anomoly in the energy readings of her monitor Juliet had figured it was going to be really handy to have some more of them, and had taken Izzy shopping, this time in a place that Juliet had to admit was interesting, but obviously more so to her friend. The tech-witch had gone into a state of bliss that had Juliet seriously wondering about her.
"Anyone'd think this was a private showing in Tiffany's!" Juliet had joked at one point, Izzy just giving her a confused look. Juliet choked back a question, remembering again that Izzy wasn't from this world, and even in her world, was again from a completely different world to Juliet.
When the sales assistant had finished ringing up all the parts they had available, arranging for the things that they had to order in to be delivered, they'd loaded up the car and driven back to Juliet's.
"You can make them here, and when you find somewhere to actually position them, we can take them there," she'd said when Izzy had started to protest. "Look, you don't have anywhere else, do you? You're still looking for that ground floor garage thingy, so until then you can work here." Bart had opened the front door for the two young women and immediately been roped in to help.
When Juliet stepped out onto the roof that morning she crossed immediately to the cabinet, peering in through the glass front at the dials and softly glowing digital displays. Not that they meant a lot to her, but everything looked normal. The signals were being transmitted to the network and sent to Izzy's computer, all the units able to be hooked into the network and monitored remotely. Juliet had known there were ways of doing it all, but technology was something she was only too happy to use, and even happier to have someone else understand and set up.
As she straightened she stopped, the sudden movements and flickers catching her attention. Blinking a few times, then turning on her heel she headed back to the door and downstairs. Her phone was in her hand and she punched up Izzy.
"Izzy? Just me, Juliet. I was just up on the roof and saw everything was fine, and then all the needles and numbers and everything went schizo! No idea what it was, but just thought I'd let you know. Ciao!"
