Session Start (All Work No Play/Infelicitas)

All Work No Play: Let me guess, you fell asleep and left your computer on. Again. You have any idea how sad it is that your online status says '48hours, 55 minutes and 30 seconds'? ;) Toooby, wake up, I'm bored, entertain me!

Infelicitas: I'm awake!! I'm just trying to download something and it's taking a really long time. So technically, yes, I have fallen asleep with my computer on, but not right now. Kinda glad you weren't in the other day when I woke up from crashing on the keyboard and I had imprints on my face. That was embarrassing. And I'd left my contacts in. My eyes feel like they're on fire.

Infelicitas: Anyway, I don't exist to entertain you! :p Don't you have some doctor to do that? No, wait, that's you ;) And it's totally not sad that my status says that. It's quite epic. I'm going for 100 hours. Just because.

All Work No Play: Uh-huh sure you are, I can practically feel your lightening quick wits from here ;) Y'see I didn't really need to be there to see it, you've just told me and I can now use my very active imagination to envision it. Either that or just wait for you to do it again and snap a pic!

All Work No Play: It's slow, very slow. There was a mad rush over New Years and now it's like a (excuse the wording) graveyard o.O. You, dear Toby, need to get out more. I'm totally dragging you away from your precious computer and into the real world for a night.

I hate you )

History Lesson [16 Jan 2009|12:21pm]
Faith never liked history class.

Not that she enjoyed any of the classes she had to attend on a daily basis before ultimately dropping out, but history had always been the Slayer’s least favorite. Why spend so much time looking into what used to be when life was pretty hard and sucktastic in the here and now? Not to mention the gut-wrenching boredom of reading about wars and eras gone by, with nothing more than artists’ renditions to visually depict what were supposed to be the planet’s great happenings.

Boring with a capital B and capital ORING.

But this? Wandering through the various exhibits on display at the Field Museum, Faith couldn’t wipe the wide-eyed expression off her face. She never went to museums as a child, deciding to ditch school whenever a field trip was on the horizon. Other students saw field trips as a fun diversion from the classroom; Faith saw nothing more than boredom even more pointless than being trapped in a tiny room for six hours a day with 17 or so other kids she didn’t like.

The main attraction at the museum was a collection of medieval artifacts, ranging from actual knight’s armor to art and accounts of the architecture of the period. As impressive as that was, the Slayer was even more impressed with everything else the museum had in store; right now, the object of Faith’s amazement was what the museum called the world’s largest, most complete and best preserved Tyrannosaurus Rex fossil ever discovered.

They called it Sue.

The Book Deal [16 Jan 2009|02:03pm]
As a U.S. postal worker opened a bank of mailboxes, he eased his carrier bag off his shoulder and set it down in the little lobby. Stereo music reverberated off the blank walls. It came from a few flights up. He never saw the tenants of 3C, but he knew they were two women from the envelopes he brought. He was curious what kind of girls wouldn't mind being the lone occupants of an apartment building. It seemed dangerous to him, and it was on the fringe of that bad neighborhood with all the mutant trouble. After New Year's Eve, 3C was the only apartment that didn't empty out.

Frank put his palm on the banister and craned his neck. Maintenance had repainted it without scraping off older layers, and now it had the feel of lizard skin. If he stretched, he could see the top half of their door. There was a sign taped on it. 'Break In and You Die.' There was a hand-drawn picture of a mangled-looking corpse. When the door swung open, he jumped about a mile, but the arm that reached out only dumped a plastic trash bag in the hall and slammed the door shut again.

Frank eased back and began to cram junk mail and official-looking envelopes in the box for 3H. Maybe he wasn't curious.

With Love [16 Jan 2009|04:37pm]
The yellow sedan with taxi markings pulled up in front of Toby’s house, and Kathleen looked at the house with anticipation. The journey that started nearly over 1200 miles ago and at 5 in the morning in Helena had come to an end at 8 in the evening.

Snow flurries fell from the sky when she was out of the taxi, and near the rear of the sedan to receive her luggage. “Thank you very much,” she said to the driver and then paid the fare with a tip. She placed the strap of one bag over her shoulder, and extended the handle of the suit case with rollers, and then walked over toward the front door.

Toby closed the folder marked 'downloads' on his computer and rubbed at his eyes, replacing his glasses a moment later and resting his head down on the keyboard. He kind of wished Alec was back from work already because he was bored and there were only so many text messages you could spam your housemate's cell with (considering it was off) before you were considered a stalker.

Then again, Alec had left him messages on AIM. So, really, who was the stalker?

Coffee. That was what he needed. Or maybe some Chinese. He got to his feet, stretching until he felt his muscles protest and then wandered into the kitchen, into the drawer that had been designated for 'stuff' and pulled out the menus he had collected during his first couple of weeks in the house. Now... what did he want?
