He was standing by himself, arms crossed, as always, his features once again set into a mask of nonchalance even as his eyes traced the downward flurry of the snowfall. He tilted his head down and allowed her to once again occupy his focus when she returned. "Technically, I suppose... though don't get your hopes up too high," he warned, knowing how her imagination tended to run wild. He walked beside her as they made their way away from the rink; once they were removed enough from other people, he lunged for her and swept her once again into his arms, driving his power down through his legs to catapult them to the rooftop of the nearest building once again.
The whiny teenager that he had collided with earlier paused from where he was helping his girlfriend into the car. He blinked as he watched the couple disappear from sight over the edge of the tri-story building and wordlessly vowed to never smoke pot again.
Dante touched down on the rooftop with a heavy thud and began to traverse between buildings, but rather than head them back in the direction of their apartment he steered them further towards the city's limits.
When he finally stopped again, they were atop a tall, abandoned building overlooking the sound; the city's skyline loomed in perfect view, casting a glittering reflection on the water. Up here the sounds of the city were muted, moreso now in the hush of the snow, and he looked out over the scene with a satisfied expression before he glanced down at her and set her on her feet, more gently this time. There was an uncertainty about him then, an almost shyness as he said, "I... come here sometimes. To think." He looked away from her. "Usually when you're being intolerable."
His jaw tensed. His eyes scanned the outline of the towering, glowing buildings. He was a man who owned nothing. The few things he did possess, his pride, his strength, his name, were immaterial, things he could never give her. But this, this glimpse of a refuge... well, that was something he could share. He glanced at her from the corner of his eye and he grimaced, suddenly feeling foolish. "I told you not to get your hopes up."
