Gabe was fairly certain that nobody in their right mind could get bored of watching the captivating lights that pulsated through the water as Eric had swum about. Yet he could understand the desire to do a good job and to work hard for a place at the Cirque; he felt the same in that regard. "What about hunting?" he said suddenly, thinking back on the mentions of giant squids and Eric's numerous victories that he had spoken of over the network. "I mean, probably not anything as big as you're used to but it would be really impressive to see up close."
The chill that hit him once Eric opened the door to his trailer caused Gabe to shiver and the reply he had regarding the stories of his childhood to die on his tongue, the contrast to the clammy air outside entirely unexpected. Yet he said nothing about it, following the merman inside silently and looking around with an expression of curiosity. His own trailer had been furnished when he had arrived, decorated in a style that he liked, and so he assumed that everyone's home at the Cirque had been tailor made to their needs and preferences. The sparseness of Eric's was a little alarming; so much so that Gabe, after glancing around at the empty space, turned to the merman and asked: "Were you robbed?"
Biting his lip to stop himself saying anything else rude or inappropriate, Gabe shook his head. "Sorry, I was just surprised..." he said, words trailing off as he watched Eric trying his best to be hospitable. It was sweet, even if it was a little strange to the human. It was growing increasingly clearer that Gabe had never spent time with merfolk before. "Vodka sounds good, thanks."
Then, returning to the question that Eric had posed before they had reached his trailer, Gabe flashed a grin at the merman. "Mermaids mostly," he said, casually bringing his hands up to rub at his bare arms. He hadn't expected to feel so chilly, considering how warm it was outside. "How they'd pull you down under the water if you swam out too far. I thought they were just stories told to kids to stop them going out of their depth, though now I kinda wanna know if it's true..."
