"Not for lack of trying," was her equally quick response, her tone as waspish as his own. They were encased, now, in a mild whirlwind, one that shimmered with the reds and orange of his embers; it would have been beautiful if not for the fact that it was a clear representation of strife between them. She was displeased by the way she was forced to crane her neck back to look at him, but did nothing to fix it for now... she had to find a way to diffuse the situation, not challenge him and escalate it further.
"It was a mistake," she whispered, flinching at the reminder of what she had so unwittingly done to him that last time they were together. "I thought it would... be something of her you could carry with you. It was ignorance, Kennet, but my intentions were never cruel. You know that." She did not like the way his inferno eyes scanned her then, liked less the dangerous threats that tumbled from his flame-licked lips. She did, however, take and store his comment about broken chains for later use... that was an interesting concept, one worth exploring, but nothing she wanted to pursue with him when he was like this.
"Threats are unbecoming of you, Djinn," she said, and had to pause to level her tone from where it bordered on real anger. "If you meant to destroy me, we both know you would not give me the benefit of a warning.." This last was uttered in a primitive tongue, one long gone. "I know not from where this power came, but you are drunk with it. If you are to break your chains, this is not the way. You risk losing yourself, Kennet, and then what will it all have been for?"
