Marlow thanked him and took a pull from the bottle, not entirely convinced of what he was telling her, but she didn't want to be pushy. If Issac said he was fine, then maybe he was, and if he wasn't, he knew now at least that she was there if he needed her. After another drink, she bent over and set the bottle down beside him on the floor, then went back to his messy hair and the comb dangling off the side of his head, smiling at it despite herself, though the amusement on her lips slowly faded.
She began to wonder if the entity she'd encountered in his dream was a manifestation of his powers and shuddered at the thought of what could happen if it grew beyond that wingspan and decided to consume him. She didn't doubt something like that was possible. "Just..try not to stretch yourself thin, huh? Whatever that energy was, it felt...incredibly dangerous." Like something bigger and much crueler than a nightmare.
As she gently pulled the plastic teeth free from the last clump of hair, Marlow let out a small, triumphant ha! "Who's awesome?" she said, resting her head against the side of his, and waved the comb out in front of him.
