Who: Nora & Vaughn What: NEWBIES UNITE When: October 30th, very late Where: The Mirrored Labyrinth Rating: PG
The moment that her shift was done, the very first moment that she could, Nora had escaped from the Lady's Table. The glass of bloodied wine that she had been drinking for the last couple hours had taken the edge off the way that Zane had promised, but the restaurant was still like being at a buffet that she wasn't allowed to eat from. The patrons all smelled so good; the sounds of their heartbeats were loud in her ears, the warmth of their living bodies seeming to make the little restaurant stuffy.
The fresh air had helped, and Nora had gulped it in. But there, too, was the smell of blood. Fainter than earlier, but still present, still maddening. It was okay, she told herself. She just had to hold out until Zane could meet up with her, until he could help her find a suitable meal for the night – a real meal, not the wine that had served to tide her over. Then again, all the human patrons still on the grounds looked like that meal, as far as Nora was concerned.
In the end, she ducked off the Midway into one of the attractions, finding herself surrounded by what seemed like a thousand mirrors. There were humans in the mirror maze; she could hear and smell them. But they weren't right there at hand, and that helped. After a few moments of wandering, of moving further from the voices, Nora just dropped down to sit on the maze's floor, her back up against one of the mirrors, her knees pulled up to her chest. Zane had promised that she would be safe with the Cirque, but she wasn't feeling particularly safe.
