"Bet there's more people in your actual fan club, though," Kennedy said reassuringly, patting him on the back. She might not know him that well, but he seemed like a nice dude. He'd been willing enough to come with her and chase the weird ghost lady.
She gulped a little at his suggestion, but the woman didn't seem hostile or angry. She was looking at Kennedy like they were friends, or sisters maybe. It gave her a little courage; speaking with the dead wasn't really her thing, but... "Um, hi," she ventured, smiling at the lovely, if sort of transparent lady. "Who are you?"
"I am the daughter of Chief Sleeping Bear," the ghost woman replied, still in that language that Kennedy both did and did not know. "This is my island. The Great Spirits blessed me here; these snakes are my aid and protection." She smiled at Kennedy again, almost maternally. "You have been similarly blessed."
Kennedy relayed this to Ghede; any questions she would ask were put on hold when the spirit kept talking - this time, to Ghede himself. Kennedy wasn't sure if the magic translator that was working for her would now start working for him, so she dutifully repeated everything she heard.
"I am the Snake Goddess of this island," she informed him. "I do not need help crossing over, though I appreciate your attempts to help. Here," she said, attention turning back to Kennedy. Removing the shawl from her shoulders, Kennedy watched as the garment became solid, real. The spirit - Goddess? - approached, wrapped the shawl around the slightly dumbstruck lamia, then faded away.
"Uhh..." Kennedy managed after a second, turning wide eyes to Ghede. "Holy shit."
