Conor laughed. "I know, right?" he replied. "Can't charm someone who was never human to start with, no matter how human I might look. Their voices don't work on me."
"Tires, metal, bleach...basically people bring her things and she eats them. Though I can't imagine it's good for her, no." He shrugged. "I've only really seen her in passing, so I don't really know much, beyond that the hypnotist is her older sister."
"Yeah, over at the Puppeter's tent," he continued. "I'm pretty sure they use spirits to make them move, Papa Ghede runs it, he could probably tell you more about it. I don't really go in there much, but he seems like a decent enough guy. Just doing his job, like the rest of us."
He could feel the heat starting to press against his skin, his talisman must be nearing the end of its strength. He sighed, twisting it around his wrist. "OK, not to totally derail this conversation, but I need to get somewhere cold in the next little while, or you'll see me start to become very uncomfortable. I could go show you the Garden, or we could go to my trailer and have a drink, but this thing needs to build a charge back up." He held up his wrist.
