And every conversation that they had, Callum felt like he was more and more in Catherine's way. He worried about her. He also wanted all of her attention. He wouldn't deny either of those things. And he knew she had a job to do... but it felt like she pushed herself harder than necessary, more often than not. There were other people in the circus with magic abilities. They might not have been seers, but they were fucking magic, and Callum wouldn't be convinced otherwise that there wasn't someone else around the Cirque that couldn't handle the shit that seemed to be going down every fucking place they stopped.
It was like the Cirque was fucking Gotham, and they all relied on his girlfriend, Batman. Sometimes Batman needed a break too, dammit. Even if he would never admit it, because he was a workaholic. Like Cat.
So Callum was fucking needy. He was always wanting to see Cat, or spend time with her, and she was a busy woman. He was just in the way.
Which had been one of the reasons he had decided to go back to his trailer. If he was going to be laying around for a few days, he wanted his things, and he didn't want to be in her way while she was busy. That, and waking up alone was never pleasant, if you'd previously gone to bed with your significant other. But maybe that was just him that felt that way.
He was doing much better than he had been, the night before, and earlier in the day. Ana had helped him from the Band Aid Station to his trailer, and he'd eventually fallen asleep after he'd taken the painkillers that Rose had given him. He was out cold when Cat arrived, and honestly, he didn't even hear her messing around with the soup and the stove.
He probably slept for another good forty-five minutes to an hour before he actually stirred. He smelled the soup, finally, and moved a little to groggily glance toward his kitchen, and Catherine on the small couch.
Maybe the medicine was making him hallucinate?
Okay, no. He didn't actually think that. And he wasn't even surprised to see her there! If anything he was actually glad to see her-- even if it didn't much show. Letting his head settle back against the pillow, he brought a hand up to rub at his eyes and face as he moved a little more-- slowly, mind you. He was quite sore. "You could've woken me up," like he'd mentioned earlier. But that was alright. He smiled gently, shifting to push himself to sit up. "Didn't wanna miss you."
