Lucia and Maddy and OPEN- the Midway
Maddy was starting to get the feeling that attracting the attention of a prowling lioness, who was probably feeling extremely on her guard, was not the greatest idea. But neither could she stand by and do nothing. Plus, she was rather hoping they could navigate the grounds together. People tended to steer clear of huge predators.
She was rethinking this plan when it jumped, sailing past her and barreling into a man behind her. She heard the thump and the crunch, but couldn't make herself look. And a good thing too, because a man with a gun was approaching from the opposite way, aiming his gun at the shifter.
"Not today, Satan," Maddy mumbled under her breath. She darted forward, her hand closing around his arm. There was no time for any of her tricks or persuasion, just the brute force battering of her mind against his. He fought her, of course he did, but her will to subjugate him and survive was stronger.
"Put the gun to your temple," she commanded in a cold, firm voice. She watched as he did so. "Pull the trigger." He did, and the connection was broken abruptly. Maddy watched him fall, feeling detached from the whole scene. There was no time to process this now, she'd have to deal with it later.
