Just had the bullets hailed down on the little ticket booth, Meredith had desperately tried to wedge her and Bitsy between the supportive frames of the booth itself in the hope that the thicker pieces would provide more protection. She had curled Bitsy more into those slats, Meredith's body the extra cocoon of protection the blonde could only provide. If a bullet so happened to find its way in their mashed little section, let it find her first then the terrified and sobbing little girl that was screaming for her Baba.
The bullets were deafening and destructive, shattering glass and splinters of wood raining down around Meredith and Bitsy. Those bullets punched through everything it found, making swiss cheese of the upper part of the only door to the booth. The whole time Meredith's instincts were to try to calm the little girl. A mantra of 'I know, I know,' or 'It'll be okay, It'll be okay'; all the lies one tells when there is nothing else to do. The empath was crying silently, overwhelmed with Bitsy's fear, the panic and horror of the customers, and her own.
She had heard the roar of lions and her brain helped to fill in the imagery of those two stone lions springing to life-- Now Meredith knew what the button did. Even though there were two very threatening lions attacking the shooters, Meredith hadn't moved from out of the ticket booth, paralyzed with her instinct to protect Bitsy and the chaos of emotions pulsing from the whole cirque.
Everything was happening so quickly. The screams of horror, the sounds of rending flesh... The very close explosion that caused both child and woman to scream in fear as the blast caused more glass to shatter and rain down on them... Then the sudden 'thump' on the roof of the ticket booth and a new flurry of bullets hitting something that made them sound dull and almost distant. Then Meredith heard the roar above, her heart felt it would burst with everything and the added spike of hope.
It was only when she heard Alexandru's voice, then brought up as a chorus to the locked door, did the blonde look up calling out to Alexandru first. "We're okay! We're okay!" With a mixture of panic and relief choking her voice. The little girl brought up her panicked cry of how much she wanted her Baba. Meredith shifted in a rush up to her knees and to the door because of the protective shield that Alexandru's wings provided to unlock and then hurriedly opened the door for Halle. She pulled the other small blonde into the cramped and destroyed ticket booth, closing the door behind her.
Hasty actions, a panic little girl reaching out for Halle, rushed words of 'Here, here!' and 'It's okay, it's okay!'... Meredith guided Halle toward the shattered window now that Bitsy was in her arms and to those powerful wings of Alexandru's. "Alexandru! Take them! Take them! Halle has a little girl! Get them somewhere safe!" Meredith implicitly trusted Alexandru to take them, to fly them somewhere safe.
