Lu let her dark eyes scan the surrounding area before letting them fall to appraise the man before her with a guarded stare, shifting her lengthy body uneasily against the creaking bench of the booth positioned just outside his trailer. It was May, and the weather was balmy, but she still felt slightly warm in her sweatshirt. The man standing opposite her perch was... unsettling, but she couldn't quite place her finger on why. He looked normal enough. But if life, and especially the past two years had taught her anything, it was that appearances were misleading more often than not. She wondered, briefly, what this man was under his human suit. Was he a person, or a monster?
Funny how one's definition of 'monster' can change over the years.
The idea of joining a circus had been a bit hard for Luc to digest at first. She had, of course, pointed out to her long-time companion that she was in no rush to become any more of a 'runaway cliche', but Nik had insisted that it would be a good move for them both. She knew that staying still made him restless, and they had been in Boulder for quite some time now. But more than that he seemed determined to immerse her in the world he had inadvertently made her apart of, and was adamant that this circus was where that could happen.
She didn't know how he had heard of it, nor did she ask many questions before she was packing her bags to make the trip to Aspen, and now here she was. She hadn't needed to explore the place very much to know that Nik's promise of its enchantment was real... just the light tunnel had mystified her and drawn a rare smile from her lips. Regardless, if this was where he wanted to be, it was where she would be.
It was important, she'd been told, that she arrive for this meeting with their new boss alone, and now here she was. She had assumed that it was some kind of carni-job interview, but it was quickly becoming apparent that that was not quite the case. Clearing her throat, she rolled one of her drooping shoulders toward her ear in a shrug, her fingertips fluttering an erratic beat against her knees.
"I..." She paused, cleared her throat and tried again, her voice low and raspy, "Um, it says that a job will be appointed, I just wanted to be upfront that I don't have a lot of experience with... circus stuff." The way she grimaced was evidence that she was aware of her lack of eloquence. "But I'm good at working with people." More silence. She felt terribly... exposed... under his scrutiny, especially with him looming over her, and she decided, right then, that she didn't like that very much.
