"It was the thing I wanted most in the world. And I wanted it because I'd earned it," she said quietly, picking up a menu. "I was also pretty against sleeping my way into jobs, which ran rampant in that circuit. I saw girls agree to it and wind up with nothing, and I-I was not going to be thrown out like trash." She stared at her hands. "Plus, you know, I think my mother might have killed me. For trying the mojo, at least."
