Escape had been the easy part of Finnerty's time on land. Once the warlock human had been taken care of by the strange shifter, the charmed locks had cracked with a lack of power to back them. The creak of the steel top tumbling off echoed in the silence of the forest that had surrounded them. There were no clues to how to get back to the ocean, not even a faint smell of the salt water she craved to be amongst. Each creature that had been magically detained by the mundane with his fancy toys had gone in separate directions leaving the mermaid to fend for herself. She did not blame them, they had gone with their instincts. Finding her way through the wilderness, Finnerty stole clothes to better fit in with the humans around her. She avoided cities as their air felt disgusting in her hair and on her skin. Hoping from lake to lake where she could find them and following animal tracks to the hidden ponds she could sit in for a while. Leaving the campsite with the tank felt like a poor idea most nights. The air thinned and the land became mountainous, Finnerty found herself in a colder environment. Her clothes no longer fit in with what she saw humans wearing, but cold felt comfortable to a creature such as herself. Extreme temperatures felt like home. Stripping out of her clothes, she dipped her feet into a hot spring- the land around it undeveloped and though there were trails that meant humans had been by, none seemed to be in the area. |
