It was clear that the woman next to him was comforted by the other man's presence. A small part of him wondered if Syssi looked comfortable like that around him. Lately he wasn't really sure that she even wanted him around anymore. Not like he had much choice. He could only go so far away from her before he felt some invisible force pulling him back. He didn't want to think about that right now, and pushed the thoughts from his mind.
"You think that has anything to do with why we are still here?" he asked. He wasn't entirely convinced that it wasn't the work of someone here. Sure, none of them seemed entirely dangerous on a normal day. Otherwise he never would have agreed to stay here. But he didn't trust them. Rules or no rules. He certainly didn't see them as family. His family was dead. Well everyone but Syssi.
