Mona shook the other woman's hand and smiled, the expression a little nervously awkward.
Nadine did look very normal, but then so did so many other people in the circus. That was half the problem. When Nadine asked how she was doing, Mona gave a half shouldered shrug.
"Better?" she suggested, trying to work it out for herself. "A bit? It's still..." she made vague hand gestures that said nothing very clear. "I don't know. Better. Probably. With pancakes," she added, because surely with pancakes it would all be improved.
