It was all thanks to Elia that Mona looked good tonight. Elia was the one who'd taken her shopping and bought her the expensive dress. It was Elia who told her what makeup to wear and had it applied correctly. And it was Elia who organized Mona to have her hair done up into a fancy updo that had taken forever. (They had first straightened her mostly-straight hair and then put a thing through it to make it wavy! It had seemed some pointless extra steps to Mona, but it did look more amazing than she'd ever had it before.)
Her talk with Kit that afternoon had confused her all the more about where she stood with him, even though it was technically cleared everything up. Sort of. She supposed.
Mona was confused, in any case.
She opened up the door to the trailer when he knocked and walked over to open it, smoothing down her dress and taking a deep breath before she did so.
Kit looked good. Kit looked... just really good. She tried to imagine if he'd shown up at her high school to take her to prom looking like this and her stomach did a little flip at the idea of that.
If he'd taken her to prom, she would have kissed him.
Another stomach flip and she smiled at him, nervous but excited. "You look amazing," she told him, trying not to sound a little breathless.
