november 7, late night
I'm sure I looked very silly dragging a wagon of liquor and books through the streets of Moscow, but it was for a good cause. As much as I enjoyed the liquor that refilled itself during lockup, I bought several cases of Khortytsya vodka. And to celebrate my first successful appearance in the Freakshow, I will be bundled up outside my trailer tonight, sharing my precious vodka with whomever happens to stop by.
Father:
Yes, what James told you is true: I quite literally ran off to join the circus. You'll be very happy to know that I've been placed in the Freakshow with the rest of what you would call riffraff on a good day and atrocities of nature on a bad day. But, you know what? It's not so bad. I'm making friends at a moderate pace and didn't even make too much of a fool of myself during my first performance. They stare at me, yes, for my height, for the way I can stretch my limbs, but it's not a stare of malice or dislike. It's wonder.
It's like when you took me to Stonehenge when I was ten, even though you were just there for the photo-op and you had me guide James through the crowd even though, by that point, he was taller than me. When I finally got to the front of the tourists, I was struck by how out of place those huge rocks were. They couldn't be explained, how different they were from the rest of the world. It was a feeling, and it's the same feeling that people get when they look at me, that something is wrong, that something is out of place. Now, maybe it's egotistical of me to compare myself to a thousand year old monument that we don't even know the purpose of, but I'm your son: ego is practically second-nature to me.
In any case, I'm... content, here. Feel free to keep lying to your friends about where I am, I'm sure I'll eventually return from my 'sabbatical'.
Oh, by the way, Toys R Us is finally liquidating their UK storefronts. They've been earmarked for us to purchase for the past two years, courtesy of your favourite son, so get on that and make sure to remember to keep my credit cards open and paid off.
Send my love to Mother,
Oliver.
